When it comes to weddings it can be extremely stressful to find ideas for themes. If you’re stuck for ideas, look no further than a roaring twenties inspired wedding. This theme can range from outfits, colours, and materials to music, and accessories.

Here’s a little inspo to help you get started on preparing personalised design plans and colour palettes for your very own roaring twenties wedding celebration.

Dresses that Dance Through Time

The biggest thing you will consider first is, of course, your dress and accompanying bridesmaids outfits. You may opt for a vintage wedding dress, something that runs in the family, or a brand new dress with 1920s flare. If you want the dress to match the theme, consider finding a dress with drop-waisted silhouettes, beading, fringes or feathers. The 1920s silhouette is very specific and can be difficult to reflect so you may opt for getting a dress that flatters your figure instead of a classic 1920s look.

Whether or not you want to nail this silhouette, to perfect whatever silhouette you aim for it is important to consider shapewear to accentuate your features as well. To feel both beautiful and comfortable on your big day, do some in-store bra fittings after buying your dress to emphasise the specific silhouette you’re aiming for. This ensures you can enjoy yourself without worrying about bra slip ups, showing straps or honeymoon back pains.

For your bridesmaids dresses, you may consider some modern interpretations of classic 1920s dresses for you and your bridesmaids. Coordinating well will look beautiful in wedding photos, which will be a memorable keepsake down the track.

Grooms & Groomsmen in Style

To truly nail the 1920s theme, coordinating everyone’s outfits is vital. Exploring the 1920s style will mean exploring 1920s style waist cinching tuxedos and vests, and of course the iconic suspenders. This can be thrifted or even custom made to really fit the theme. For groomsmen, where you need multiple outfits, it may be easier to get custom made outfits, to prevent it looking tacky. Similarly to the dresses, you can discover modern takes on these looks with bolder patterns and playful accessories such as an antique watch or a giant cigar.

The Spirit of the Era

To dive into the glamorous and decadent vibes of the 1920’s, the aesthetic elements and music need to fit the bill. 1920s art deco will almost steal the spotlight as statement pieces to bring together your venue. This will be most appropriate at an outdoor venue, as you can hang framed posters and art from, or drawing inspiration from the 1920s. However, if you opt for an outdoor venue, there are other ways to reflect a 1920s vibe.

For example, music is a good way to display a theme. Hiring a jazz band that can do 1920s music is a great way to do this. This also means you can do 1920s inspired first dances to integrate the theme.

Color Palettes for Your Gatsby Dream

Exploring colour combinations that were popular in the 1920s is another way to fit the theme. This can be integrated into different parts of the wedding, such as accessories, ornaments, light fittings, jewellery, cutlery and more. Some popular colour combinations include black and gold, blush and ivory and emerald and pearl. A black and gold colour theme may be difficult to achieve for dresses, as you will typically wear a white dress. However, the contrast of the black will make your dress stand out even more, creating a showstopping look!

Some bolder options for colour palettes are jewel tones, metallics and vibrant pops of colour. Themes with bright colours can be difficult to implement, as it can be difficult to coordinate a complicated theme with bright colours, especially with outfits. You may choose to keep the setting a classic white and add a pop of colour to the outfits. Or, you may even keep classically subtle coloured outfits with one or two bright colours in the setting for contrast.

Ultimately, colour choice is up to personal preference. Make sure to choose a palette that you believe looks good and also reflects you and your partners’ personal styles, and fits the venue.

Accessories & Accents

Accessories and accents are the vital finishing touches that will make or break your chosen theme. Accessories can take a wedding from having a beach venue to a tropical hawaiian summer style wedding. For outfit accessories, headbands, feathers, pearls and gloves will make perfect outfit accessories to add to the dress code. For the couple getting married, vintage jewellery, pocket squares and boutonnieres will make a unique outfit.

Candles, curtain tassels and feathers make for the perfect add ons to your wedding to add some 1920s flare. If you decide on a black and gold theme, gold candle holders, curtain tassels and cutlery will be the perfect way to express this theme though smaller details. Of course, no 1920s themed wedding is complete without way too many giant feathers in your hair and in the decorations, so don’t shy away from a beautiful feathered table centrepiece!

Overall, these tips should help you to perfect your 1920s style wedding and have an absolutely fabulous night!

Are you looking to throw a fabulous bash with a timeless beautiful and a summery feel? Why not impress your guests with a fabulous Beverly Hills Hotel inspired party? We love this idea for a kids pamper party, hen’s slumber party, bridal shower – or any summer party really! With the right planning, decorations and activities, your party will be an unforgettable experience that everyone will love. Here are some of our favourite planning ideas and tips to help you get started.

Planning Ideas and Tips for Hosting a Beverly Hills Hotel Inspired Party

Decor and styling

  • Choose a colour scheme of pink and green to emulate the classic and elegant look of the Beverly Hills Hotel.
  • Consider adding an accent colour to give it a unique spin – think bronze, gold or even black!.
  • Set up a photo booth with a backdrop of the hotel’s iconic pink and green stripes.
  • Use palm tree decorations to create a lush, tropical feel. Incorporate elements of Hollywood glamour, such as a red carpet entrance and a vintage movie poster display. Play lounge music or jazz to set the mood.
  • Provide luxury amenities like plush robes and slippers for guests to use during the party.

Food and drink

  • Serve signature cocktails (or cocktails) like the “Beverly Hills Hotel Martini” or “Pink Palace Punch” to add to the ambiance.
  • Set up a dessert station featuring classic treats like the hotel’s famous banana split.

Venue Ideas

  • A backyard with a pool is an ideal location, especially if you are being inspired by the hotel’s famous Cabana Club
  • If you are hosting a hen’s getaway, an AirBnb will have an abundance of options
  • Many pub or hotel function rooms are kitted out with a tropical feel, especially if they are located by the beach – see if you can find one to host your event
  • Play lounge music or jazz to set the mood.

If all else fails, with the right decor and set up, it shouldn’t be too hard to capture the right ambience!

Favours

  • Depending on party size and type, you may want to consider a thank you gift such as a robe or fluffy slides. If it is a shower or a hen’s party, consider offering these as game prizes, especially as they are on the dearer side!
  • Eye masks are a great idea. If you have a Cricut machine or similar, you could even customise them!
  • For something more in budget, consider a mix of green or pink hard striped candy in a jar with matching tag!
  • Serve signature cocktails like the “Beverly Hills Hotel Martini” or “Pink Palace Punch” to add to the ambiance.

Top Tips for Creating the Perfect Party Cake

It’s an exciting rush diving into party planning for your own celebration! However taking that extra leap to create your own cake – whether that be for a birthday or even an engagement – can be a little overwhelming

Let me help you feel more confident in the kitchen. Here are some big cake do’s and don’ts to ensure your celebration cake is a big success!

—————

DON’T: Leave your baking to the last minute – you’ll be in a rush, cut corners and you ultimately won’t be happy with the finished product.

DO: Make your cake and icings in advance to save on time leading up to the party. Simply pop it in the freezer and defrost the day before. So many cake decorators freeze their cakes and icings, so ignore those freezer-naysayers! Would you believe me if I told you it actually makes the cake more moist?

—————

DON’T: Bake from scratch if you aren’t confident with baking. It’s stressful!

DO: Take advantage of packet mixes or pre-made cakes – this saves you time and the headache of trying to bake that perfect cake. I promise that your guests won’t think any less of you!

—————

DON’T: Decorate with warm or room temperature cake, as it’s very fragile. The cake will be very soft, which means it’s tricky to handle and prone to cake breakage. Additionally, placing icing on a warm cake is a recipe for disaster!

DO: Decorate with chilled cakes for stability and less crumbs in your icing. For chilled cake layers, pop your cakes in the fridge for at least 2 hours before decorating.

—————

DON’T: Stack domed cake layers on top of each other – the cake will be uneven, unstable and inevitably start to lean.

DO: Trim your cake layers flat before stacking and icing your cake.

DON’T: Place your cake in direct sunlight or in a hot space – we don’t want all of your hard work melting away and falling apart!

DO: Keep your cake in a cool (and in some cases, dry) climate. If the party is outdoors, place the cake outside just before guests arrive. If it’s sunny outside, make sure you keep your cake in a shaded area.

—————

I hope these cake-tips help you to sweeten your skills so you can create the perfect cake for your next party!

Christmas Table Arrangement and Styling Tips https://confettifair.com.au/christmas-table-arrangement-and-styling-tips/ Fri, 25 Nov 2022 14:53:30 +0000 https://confettifair.com.au/?p=16543 Christmas is busy enough without spending hours decorating your lunch or table in preparation of your Christmas Day festivities. Christmas is busy enough without spending hours decorating your lunch or table in preparation of your Christmas Day festivities. We spoke to the team at Decorated Table, who have put together a few table decorating ideas that will help you add that magic Christmas touch in less time than it takes to enjoy a piece of pudding!

KEEP IT TRADITIONAL

There is nothing easier than a ready-made garland to quickly add decoration to your Christmas table. Of course, if you are feeling adventurous, you can start with a plain garland and add your own decorations. Here I have used a traditional ready decorated green garland with gold decorations and simply added some clear glass tea light holders with tea lights to add some instant warmth and movement to the table. Don’t forget that when having candles at the dinner table, ensure they are unscented as not to interfere with the scents of the dinner. This quick decorating idea will take you no more than 5 minutes and your friends and family are sure to be impressed.

DOUBLE DUTY DECOR

Beautiful food items work hard and can be used for multiple purposes. Cinnamon is a perfect example. If you want your house to smell like Christmas without the worry of burning scented candles, just add cinnamon sticks to your décor!

CHRISTMAS IS A BALL

Vases aren’t just for flowers! Use small glass vases with Christmas tree decorations (the standard baubles look great) to make a table centrepiece. The use of Christmas decorations on your table is an easy and cost-effective way of carrying your decoration theme from your tree to your table. Use any colour scheme – bright, metallic or pastels. Just remember, whatever you decide to use if you place a white tablecloth or runner underneath it will really make your decorations stand out (and give you instal-worthy snaps). Happy holiday entertaining!

THE PARTY BEBE’S EMILY JABOUR SHOWCASES THESE QUICK TREATS THAT EVEN THE BUSIEST OF PARTY PLANNERS CAN MAKE!

The holiday season is upon us, and whilst I love baking festive treats with my little ones, with back-to-back Christmas parties and events I also need to be able to come up with some super quick party treats. Here are two Christmas party food ideas that will literally take two minutes to make (the kids will love to help make these too, so make sure there are some spare cookies available for them to get creative)! A big thank you to Charlie’s Cookies for providing the delicious cookies for these party treats!

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

SANTA BELT COOKIES

  • 1 packet red iced cookies, macarons or melting moments. Charlie’sCookiesRaspberry Melting Moments were used inthis recipe
  • Black writing icing or melted dark chocolate
  • White icing or melted white chocolate

REINDEER COOKIES

  • Writing icing
  • Smarties or M&M’s for the nose
  • 1 packet gingerbread cookies (these onesareCharlie’s Cookies Gingerbread Bears,(turned upside down and iced onto theback of the cookie) which were perfect.

METHOD

SANTA BELT COOKIES

  1. Start by piping or drawing the belt onto the cookie with black writing icing or melted darkchocolate. (I used Queen writing icing).
  2. Pipe on the two round buttons above the belt. (I made a royal icing and then piped the buttonson, but you could use melted white chocolate, white writing icing, or even mini marshmallows.)
  3. Allow to set and then enjoy!

REINDEER COOKIES

These adorable cookies won’t last long on the dessert table! Rudolf has never looked sweeter!

  1. Pipe a mouth, ears, eyes and antlers on to thecookie.
  2. Add icing to the back of a Smartie or M&M and place the nose onto the cookie and allow to set.

CHRISTMAS IS AN EVER CHANGING HOLIDAY. FROM ITS BEGINNINGS WITH THE BIBLE AND PAGAN IDEAS TO MODERNITY, TRADITIONS ARE VAST AND TRANSIENT. HERE ARE SOME TRADITIONS THAT HAVE CHANGED IN THE PAST FEW YEARS.

CHRISTMAS CARDS VS DIGITAL WISHES

Whilst no-one will deny the beauty and power of sending out a handwritten greeting, the truth is that when you’re running out of time to get things done, it’s just too easy to log-on, find a pretty picture and press send! You know your second cousin who you never see and that old work friend won’t mind.

LOTS OF GIFTS FOR EVERYONE VS MINIMALIST & CHARITY GIVING

It seems everyone is gifting lighter and smarter. But no ones missing out! With the emergence in popularity of health and environmental issues everyone is over the materialistic gluttony of years past and is participating in family and friend wide KK, or donating to a charity instead of buying a gift. With the launch of gifting apps parents can now even organise for givers to put in towards something substantial and out of reach for kids, rather than 20 unwanted space depriving gifts.

MAKING A GINGERBREAD HOUSE VS THREE-INGREDIENT DESSERT RECIPES

Gingerbread houses…I know they’re doing it in Bad Moms 2 but that doesn’t mean it’s a thing, right? I mean, ain’t nobody got time for that! Give me a no-bake 3 ingredient internet recipe any day!

LEAVING OUT MILK & COOKIES FOR SANTA VS REINDEER FOOD

Aah, the magic of milk and cookies on the mantle!Made the idea of Santa so real! But what about his ride? Well, that’s where reindeer food comes in. Upon research, I found out that it is a curious mix of oats, sequins and glitter! Magical yes but I hope no one is putting it outside to be eaten by the birds. Keep it right next to Santa’s treats!

SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN VS ELF ON THE SHELF

Back in the day, being told Santa knew if we were naughty or nice, was freaky enough. Nowadays, Santa is just too busy so we have the creepy little elf keeping a watchful eye for the man himself.

CRAFTED STOCKINGS VS PERSONALISED SANTA SACKS

Remember the stock standard plain red stockings? The deluxe version, if you were lucky, had lovely felt trees and baubles glued on. None of that these days! Now we have super-luxe personalised Santa Sacks in gorgeous metallic lettering. I know which one I prefer!

Did you know that you can make custom napkins to match your party theme? Oh yes-sir-ee! Napkins have always been one of the more difficult items to match, and if you couldn’t find something that worked, well bad luck. But not any more! Read on to find out how to make custom and personalised napkins to match you party theme.

These were for a royal themed high tea. We picked up these robin egg blue napkins from party supplier A Little Whimsy, which were perfect for the look we wanted to create.

How to Make Custom and Personalised Napkins

Whilst foiling and stamping methods exist, the basic formula of our solution is to use heat press vinyl (HTV), with gentle heat to transfer your pattern.

In order to achieve this, we used our Cricut Joy to cut the HTV into a pattern that matched our theme, and pressed it on using the Cricut EasyPress 2. Below are the instructions using these machines, but do scroll on below as I offer some ideas for those who don’t have access to these machines.

  1. Find your preferred design in the Cricut Design Space. For this project, I looked for a ‘fleur de lys’, as I wanted something wth a regal look.
  2. Cut your vinyl design using your Cricut cutting machine. For this particular project, I used the Cricut Joy Smart Iron-On in Gold, from Spotlight. The best thing about this particular is that it doesn’t require a cutting mat.

3. Now listen up for this part! Normally I would reference Cricut’s very useful Heat Guide to figure out what temperature to set my heat press machine for the project I am working on. But since napkins are not a common project, they are not listed. I was using the Easy Press 2, and I did some playing, and found that 120 degrees Celsius, at 20 seconds with a light press worked well. I was able to peel the protective layer nicely after 10 seconds, so I would say it is a cool peel. If your design is small, I also recommend the Mini Press, Cricut’s smaller heat press product.

In today’s blog post Debbie, from One Pretty Day, recalls how she pulled off the impossible to make sure Ella Rose had the best day ever for her 6th birthday. Read on for the details of this dazzling and colourful Trolls themed 6th birthday.

Ella Rose’s Trolls Themed 6th Birthday

You get miracles, and then you get CRAZY miracles! And this party was one of THOSE! It normally takes me 4 – 6 weeks to design a party, but when Ella Rose’s mom contacted me in a state on the Monday, and asked me to work a miracle by the Saturday, I had four days to fast forward the whole planning process! And I think you can agree the result was BRIGHT, FUN AND BEAUTIFUL, just like the gorgeous Ella Rose herself!

It was THE most perfect sunny Saturday for Ella’s party, once the thick mist had lifted in
Oranjezicht (in South Africa) and the beautiful mountains peeked over the walls of this beautiful family home. Kiddos had the time of their lives hanging out in teepees, having makeup, glitter tattoos and
nails done (girls), while boys made slime with slime kits and had hair sprayed! Super cool!

The beautiful dolls house was also a favourite play spot! Then they were enthralled with a magic
show by a magician, all enough to make them super hungry to go and feast at the party tables.
There troll hair (candy floss), magic milk, Poppy’s popcorn and a variety of sweet bakes
satisfied any sweet tooth, aswell as two beautifully designed cakes! They could also fill take-away sweetie packets to snack on or take home, with troll food, troll feet, troll tongues and glitter gumballs.

In the corner of the beautiful yard bags had been specially designed for them (HUG DANCE
REPEAT) to pop all their party favours into: stickers, rainbow sherbet straws, galaxy slime, ‘troll snot’, slinkies, POP-it’s, PEZ troll sweet dispensers, troll hair (Alice bands), musical rainbow wands as well as bright hoola-hoops!!!

If you look at these kiddies faces they truly had a magical, musical, Colourful and happy day
celebrating their friend, Ella Rose, turning 6! No troll was left behind!

Billy-May’s Monochrome Patisserie French Themed Party

Petit Amour! The sweet décor to make up this French patisserie theme is a darling affair to fall for. Much like the romantic city itself this fourth birthday party for Billy-May was all about the gorgeous and adorable setting.

White cross back chairs, round café tables and artificial pastries to boot, the children travelled to Paris for this cute café experience with its very own white timber cubby.

Adorned in white florals all of the guests fell in love and the children were spoiled with custom water bottles, cafe menus, individually wrapped chocolates, and stickered lollipops. The authentic experience with silverware, ceramic espresso mugs and baking tools brought smiles all round as the children experienced a true French patisserie setting in our very own backyard.

Fair to say the birthday girl was delighted!

Bold pops of colour and bright decor imbue this dino celebration with a whole lot of fun!

You can read the full details of this fairy tea party in the Winter 2018 issue of Confetti Fair.

This adorable dino party was inspired by birthday boy Cooper’s very colourful personality and his love for dinosaurs. Normally, when you think dinosaurs, you think gloomier colours such as dark green and dirt brown.

However, Mint and Magic had a little something else in mind and when we came across Daydream Society’s dino line, we fell in love! The design just pops! Once we found our tableware, we then playfully tied in the surrounding elements to match. Using the colours dark blue, baby blue, seafoam green, red, and yellow as our main colour scheme, we then ordered the perfect cake, cookies, invitations, and of course, built our balloon garland.

We created three different stations for the kids to have a “dinomite” experience. Each station is incredibly easy to recreate for your own party! Our first station was an area where the kids could create their own safari hat. We ordered plastic safari hats from Amazon and set out a ton of different stickers so that the kids could design their own hat.

The next station included a huge sandbox filled with dino bones waiting to be discovered. Wearing their new hats, the kids gathered their digging shovels and quickly got to work. The excitement was too real and just too cute. Our final station included a homemade game we called “Triceratoss” The kinds threw circle glow sticks and tried to make it on the horns of the Triceratops. So much fun!

One of our favourite easy peasy party hacks included in this design was the colouring paper tablecloth. You can find these at your local craft store and they were a huge hit! We set out colours along the table and the kids went right to it. What a simple way to add a little something extra to the table! Yes, pun intended!

Finally, life after Corona has brought with it a return to normality. If you had to put any activities on hold or cancel them entirely due to COVID-19, this is the perfect time to revisit them, as now, you have the opportunities and time for things like having dinner parties for friends and coworkers.

As we slowly transition into party planning mode, you will crave easy-to-embrace, though still exciting, party plans. These tiny celebrations will give us just what we need as we prepare for getting back to our old selves in 2022.

Backyard Gathering

First and foremost is hosting intimate dinners in your backyard. There’s no better way to enjoy each other’s company than over a meal in the open air with the weather warming up. The key is planning a menu that’s simultaneously easy and delicious. No one wants to spend all night grinding away in the kitchen or serving elaborate dishes.

You should stick with simple options like grilled steaks, a delicious lobster salad, or putting together a cheese platter. You’ll also want to make sure you have plenty of outdoor seating available, so set up tables and chairs if you don’t already have them.

Game Night

I’m going to go out and say that we’re all more than ready for some fun competition, so why not get a bit rowdy with some old-fashioned board games? Setting aside an hour or two for game night is a great way to catch up with people in a comfortable setting.

If you’ve been out of touch for a while, playing a game can be like catching up with old friends over dinner, except it’s much less formal, and you don’t have to worry about making boring conversations. Many games require intense teamwork, which will inevitably bring out the best in your friends!

A Spa Day At Home

There’s no doubt that most of us could use a little relaxation after the last couple of years. Why not incorporate that into your get-together? Invite everyone to bring over their favorite face masks, lotions, and nail polishes and spend the day pampering each other and gabbing about your missed out on since you last saw each other. Use the time to catch up and indulge in some well-deserved self-care and fun!

Start A Book Club

We’ve all had plenty of time to read lately—and now that we’re starting to get out more, it might be fun to get together with other book lovers and discuss our favorite new reads! Send out invitations ahead of time and ask each guest to bring their best book recommendation!

Final Thoughts

The most important thing is to have a good time and make sure your guests are having a good time. Whether you’re throwing a party or simply coming together with family and friends, these simple tips can help you embrace the spirit of being together in times of need.

Kids, work, social activities, housework…

We know how hard it can be for mums trying to build their side hustle. With so many mums side hustling on their event businesses, we thought it would only be fitting to share what is working for others. So we spoke to some super-busy mums to find out their best tips. You’ll see a few of these tips repeated. And there’s a reason for that– they work! Read on, and don’t forget to let us know if you found this helping by shooting us a DM over on Instagram.

Leonie Akhidenor is a mum of two kids aged 2 and 3. She also works as a property developer and is the founder of Parenthood Podcast.

  1. Waking up earlier to fit in some work – “I wake up super early, at 5.15 am”
  2. Working when the kids are napping –  “On weekends when my kids nap rather than resting or cleaning, I will allocate time then to work on my side hustle”.
  3. Be organised and passionate – “I am super organised (I think you have to be) and super passionate about the podcast, which is imperative otherwise, it would just not feel worth it.”

Maika Schumann is a mum of two and also runs her side-hustle Mumma’s Beans Coffee, an organic low caffeine/decaf coffee for pregnant and breastfeeding mums.

  1. Make calls during screen time– “I try to align screen time with important business calls or a slot of uninterrupted focus time.”
  1. Turn easy work tasks into a game– “When I pack orders, I try to involve my 3-year-old by setting up a little workstation for him. He ‘helps’ me sticker bags, weigh the bags, put coffee into satchels, sticker the label and logo on the packaging, etc. For loyal customers, I also let him draw on the thank you cards or packaging. I might put a note saying: ‘Stickered by Max’, or ‘Original artwork by Max’ and my customers love it. It might take a little longer, but I love watching how much he enjoys being involved and contributing.
For photos and videos, I involve my older daughter. She loves playing with the camera, trying different angles, taking photos and videos, and editing them. Again, it’s not so much about how much beautiful content she can create, but her joy of contributing to something that’s important to mum, and that feels really special. And I found my audience prefers ‘imperfect’ content more than the perfect shots anyway.”
  1. Early mornings and working after bedtime – “I sometimes respond to emails, etc. once the kids are in bed, but if I have bigger chunks of work to do I prefer getting up early and smashing it out in the morning while the house is still quiet.”

Claire Burt is a mum who is also the founder of coaching business My Inspired Lifestyle Project

  1. Seek support from like minded individuals – “Making sure I have an inner circle of like-minded women who share my values which motivate and hold me accountable.”
  1. Finding and working during peak performance hours – “I have recently found that structuring my day and finding my “peak performance hours” have helped me do the work I need to do in the hours where I am most productive”.
  2. Be excited by what you do – “I also find that I need to be excited by the side hustle (whether I was growing my coaching business or MLM). If it didn’t excite me – the work I was producing was reflective of the attitude I had”.
  3.  Self care habits – “(I have) 5 non-negotiable habits that I complete each day; morning intention setting, evening reflection, working out, walking and meditations”.

Jane McKay, is a mum and founder of marketing agency Jane McKay Communications

  1. Let go of the guilt – “One of the biggest things for me is letting go of the guilt. Don’t feel guilty about the kids when you’re working and don’t feel guilty about the work you need to do when you’re with the kids or everything will make you feel bad! Easier said than done, I know. Try to be present for the task you are doing in that moment which is definitely easier said than done. Time efficiency has become my best friend and not trying to multi-task!”

Kate Taylor is a mum of two, aged 2 and 6 months. She is also the owner and founder of Calvi.Co and working as a government lawyer.

  1. Enlist help where possible and delegate – “When I started Calvi.Co I was working as a lawyer, caring for my one-year-old and expecting my second child. I knew that it was going to be the ultimate juggling act so I made sure I had appropriate supports in place before I jumped in. I am lucky to have exceptionally supportive family and friends nearby who are always willing to take my kids for a cuddle while I answer emails, take work calls or simply jump in the shower! Never underestimate the power of delegation.”
  2. A comprehensive to do list – “I also maintain a comprehensive to do list on my phone. It might sound simple but it’s a saviour when you’re at the supermarket and need to remind yourself whether you’re running low on toothpaste or when you’ve opened a work email while you are feeding a baby in the middle of the night and know that you’ll have forgotten about it by the morning. It only takes a few seconds to jot down anything you might need a reminder about and it will save you a tonne of time in the long run.

Rachel Preston Broughton started her side hustle, Baby + Mumma Gift Hampers during Covid lockdowns. She is a teacher and a mum of two small children.

  1.  Separate mum time and work time – “I allocate time each week for my side hustle tasks, and allocate separate time for family/mum time. I am careful to keep the two separate as much as I possibly can. This means I can fully be present with my children, and I complete my side hustle tasks at allocated times, such as when they are in bed, while my husband looks after them, or at busy times I have other family minding them. This way I’m not trying to do side hustle work while also caring for the children.”
  2. Calendars – ‘I use a calendar and map out all the tasks I need to do each week and month, and ensure I stick to them. Every time a new task comes up, I put it on the calendar and allocate a specific time to do it. This way I know every task that needs to be done and when I will do it.”
  3. To do lists and goal lists – “I love being organised and keep everything on a to do list that needs to be done, and I have a goals list for longer term visions that I work on over a number of months.”
  4. Accept imperfection – ”Sometimes things aren’t perfect. Sometimes the children get sick and can’t go to daycare, or sometimes my husband works away and can’t look after the kids. Sometimes things go wrong and I need to fix something right away. Sometimes there are days when the kids spend more time watching TV than usual. These things happen, and we need to be kind to ourselves and know that every day isn’t like this.”
  5. Outsource – “This could mean hiring a virtual assistant to do some tasks, outsourcing some house work so you have time to work on your side hustle or be with your children, or perhaps outsourcing some elements of the business. I have a cleaner and a marketing agency that I outsource jobs to that I can’t find time to do myself”.
  6. Invest in yourself –  A successful side hustle needs to have time and money invested into it. I have never been afraid to invest into advertising, web
design, products and marketing as these are necessary to run a business.

Claire Cunliffe, is a full-time working mum of three with a side hustle– a monthly pre-loved clothes market Glad Rags Markets

  1. Social media planning – “I plan my social media posts one month in advance, while there is software available to do this I find drafting the posts in Instagram (which I then share across Facebook) allows me the same functionality to ensure a consistent aesthetic and by having to post the images manually I’m then online to engage and be more responsive with my community rather than set and forget. I also research national days/ events which I can hook into if I’m struggling with content ideas.”
  2. Checklists – A checklist is the most valuable tool I have for market days. It allows me to ensure I don’t forget any essential items and helps keep me on task for everything that needs to be done for the set up and breakdown of the event.
  3. Take advantage of bedtime –”I mainly run my business in the evenings once all the kids are in bed, checking emails, drafting newsletters etc – I really enjoy it so it doesn’t feel too much like work and it also stops me from spending too much time scrolling through social media.”

Ash is a mum of 2 kids under six. She is a social media manager and owner of The Social Serotonin

  1. Outsource as much as possible – be it cooking (hello meal services!) cleaning, childcare, the ironing; outsource what you can and what you can feasibly afford
  2. Timeblock – when you do have time to work on your side hustle, make it worth it! Don’t spend that precious childfree time aimlessly scrolling social media or replying to random emails or mucking about on Canva; spend the first 5 minutes planning your time, and use it wisely. I like to time block – one hour on Task A, one hour on Task B, and so on.
  3. Invest in a slow cooker – it’ll save you SO much time and money, and helps you with the dreaded “what’s for dinner?” panic at 4:45pm each day.
  4. Create systems – And ones that work for you! Maybe you use project planning software? Or a scheduling tool? Or automations in Xero? Find what works for you.
  5. Later nights and early mornings – Some days, we just have to burn the candle at both ends – working early and late – just don’t make this a regular thing that’s a surefire route to burn out!

Sarah Brooks works part-time, is a mum to 2 kids and runs a successful blog Keep Calm and Eat Ice Cream, with a new one in the works.

  1. Don’t try to do everything at once – “So some days the kids get extra screen time while I finish that delicious recipe, other times I put down work stuff and take the kids to the park. You can’t do everything all at once and you will burn out trying.”

Jamey Thompson of Prettyfly Nets is mum to a 4 year old. She works full time whilst also running her side hustle.

  1. Outsourcing for business and home– “(This) is the biggest thing for me – this can be for the business (i.e. paying someone else to do your bookkeeping) but don’t forget about domestic things too. I recently started doing meal kit delivery and I can’t stop raving about the time and ‘mental load’ this has freed up for me, no longer having to decide and shop for our family meals.” Also, childcare is another type of outsourcing!
  2. Automation– “This is something to have in your mind too. There are so many Apps for everything these days – use them! The one that saves me the most time reconciles my Shopify sales with my accounting software. I also have an App that tracks my mileage and one that extracts the data from my business receipts. Generally, I try to keep the saying ‘work smarter, not harder’ in my mind and am always on the lookout for new ways to do this.”

A few years ago, planning a vegan bridal shower, let alone a vegan wedding, might have been a tricky business. But these days vegan events are far more commonplace – trendy even – and so organising your own vegan wedding, or planning an event for a vegan bride-to-be, is nowhere near as complicated as you might expect.

There are so many vegan options around these days that you no longer have to make compromises when planning a plant-based bridal shower. But even with the popularity of a vegan diet, and understanding of veganism being so much more advanced, there are still a few potential speed bumps on the road to a great vegan event. As with any aspect of wedding planning, there are lots of things to think about, and there are still one or two tricky elements to organising a vegan bridal shower that might surprise you.

So whether you are planning your wedding on a cruise or looking forward to a traditional church wedding surrounded by friends and family, don’t let veganism be one of the things that concerns you when it comes to organising your bridal shower. Here are a few tips, tricks, and hacks that will help you plan the perfect plant-based bridal shower.

Food

Unsurprisingly, food choices are probably the biggest and most significant part of planning any event, and so getting the food right for your vegan bridal shower is crucial. Your menu will need to be 100% plant-based, so that means no meat, no dairy, no seafood, and even for some vegans no honey. However, these restrictions absolutely do not mean that your menu has to be boring! There are some really exciting, creative vegan finger food options around, and the chance to think outside the box a little can actually make your bridal shower dining options more interesting! The key things to remember are to avoid pastry (butter is a no-no), and remember that eggs and milk often turn up in surprising places. Stick to plant-based options, or research some vegan alternatives to swap in, and you’ll be amazed at the delicious options that you discover!

Drinks

Making sure that drinks are vegan is something that a lot of people don’t give too much thought to – after all, how can there be meat in your cocktails? But some wines, beers, and even spirits use animal products during the brewing process, so it is worth checking your drinks choices before you order anything. Barnivore is a great website that lets you know how vegan various brands are, so make sure you do your research before putting in that wine order!

Gifts

After doing all the hard work organising a plant-based menu and making sure your drinks are all free of animal products, don’t make the faux-pas of giving out non-vegan party favors or gifts. While most people know not to give a leather bag as a gift to a vegan, you might think about that silk lingerie or that scented candle in the same way. While there are plenty of beauty products that are cruelty-free these days, there are also sadly many that aren’t, so pampering gifts can be a minefield. One way to avoid this is to suggest that guests donate to charity instead of bringing physical gifts.

Clothes

If you are planning or attending a vegan bridal shower, you’ll want to dress to impress, and that means a totally cruelty-free outfit. While some brides won’t be as strict as others, it makes sense to err on the side of caution, so avoid leather, silk, and even wool if you want to be 100% vegan-friendly. You might also want to consider a wider interpretation of ethical attire – after all if you are aiming to save the planet through veganism you might as well go one step further!

Decorations

Finally, decorations are all too often single-use or damaging to the environment, and to be really considerate as a vegan it is vital to give this some thought as well. Don’t go with streamers, party poppers, or plastic decorations, and try to find reusable alternatives to decorate with.

Vegan events don’t have to be complicated, or even a big deal. With a few simple tweaks you can plan an amazing plant-based shower that both vegans and non-vegans will love!

Set the mood for a perfect baby shower and be inspired by this gorgeous pink and silver soiree! This party was sent to us by Kirsty of Party Mums over in the UK. Read on for the full details!

Baby, It’s Cold Outside: A Pink and Silver Baby Shower

When our customer contacted us to create a special winter themed Baby Shower, we couldn’t wait to get planning. Her party brief included a beautiful backdrop, amazing dessert table and a stunning grazing table.

First we set about selecting the theme, it had to be girly, classy and of course have that wintry feeling, without the chill. ‘Baby it’s cold outside’ seemed the perfect fit. Selecting a colour palette, we knew we wanted baby pinks, soft greys and pearl white with a little shimmer. After trying various combinations of off the shelf colours, nothing was quite right, so a custom balloon colour palette was created, with over 1000 balloons used in total throughout the party decorations.

The showstopper of the party had to be the huge balloon wall backdrop, filled with peonies, hyacinth and white eucalyptus! This beautiful display caught the guests attention the moment they entered the room.

The dessert table was dreamy, soft white curtains, surrounded with mini balloons, positioned behind a vintage style white wooden table, sat on faux fur rugs with a mini grey wooden sledge with ‘Baby it’s cold outside’ sign and snow covered pine cones.

The grazing table had a full tulle table skirt, with white grazing crates filled with a variety of savoury snacks surrounded with fairy lights, adding a little sparkle and magic.

A traditional style white candy cart, with glass jars filled with candy treats, decorated with heart shaped fairy lights, pink and white striped paper bags and custom signage.

Activities for the Baby Shower were relaxed and informal and included ‘Wishes for baby’ and ‘Baby prediction’ cards. Both activities were fun and created beautiful keepsake cards that the Mummy to be could treasure forever.
