When it comes to weddings it can be extremely stressful to find ideas for themes. If you’re stuck for ideas, look no further than a roaring twenties inspired wedding. This theme can range from outfits, colours, and materials to music, and accessories.

Here’s a little inspo to help you get started on preparing personalised design plans and colour palettes for your very own roaring twenties wedding celebration.

Dresses that Dance Through Time

The biggest thing you will consider first is, of course, your dress and accompanying bridesmaids outfits. You may opt for a vintage wedding dress, something that runs in the family, or a brand new dress with 1920s flare. If you want the dress to match the theme, consider finding a dress with drop-waisted silhouettes, beading, fringes or feathers. The 1920s silhouette is very specific and can be difficult to reflect so you may opt for getting a dress that flatters your figure instead of a classic 1920s look.

Whether or not you want to nail this silhouette, to perfect whatever silhouette you aim for it is important to consider shapewear to accentuate your features as well. To feel both beautiful and comfortable on your big day, do some in-store bra fittings after buying your dress to emphasise the specific silhouette you’re aiming for. This ensures you can enjoy yourself without worrying about bra slip ups, showing straps or honeymoon back pains.

For your bridesmaids dresses, you may consider some modern interpretations of classic 1920s dresses for you and your bridesmaids. Coordinating well will look beautiful in wedding photos, which will be a memorable keepsake down the track.

Grooms & Groomsmen in Style

To truly nail the 1920s theme, coordinating everyone’s outfits is vital. Exploring the 1920s style will mean exploring 1920s style waist cinching tuxedos and vests, and of course the iconic suspenders. This can be thrifted or even custom made to really fit the theme. For groomsmen, where you need multiple outfits, it may be easier to get custom made outfits, to prevent it looking tacky. Similarly to the dresses, you can discover modern takes on these looks with bolder patterns and playful accessories such as an antique watch or a giant cigar.

The Spirit of the Era

To dive into the glamorous and decadent vibes of the 1920’s, the aesthetic elements and music need to fit the bill. 1920s art deco will almost steal the spotlight as statement pieces to bring together your venue. This will be most appropriate at an outdoor venue, as you can hang framed posters and art from, or drawing inspiration from the 1920s. However, if you opt for an outdoor venue, there are other ways to reflect a 1920s vibe.

For example, music is a good way to display a theme. Hiring a jazz band that can do 1920s music is a great way to do this. This also means you can do 1920s inspired first dances to integrate the theme.

Color Palettes for Your Gatsby Dream

Exploring colour combinations that were popular in the 1920s is another way to fit the theme. This can be integrated into different parts of the wedding, such as accessories, ornaments, light fittings, jewellery, cutlery and more. Some popular colour combinations include black and gold, blush and ivory and emerald and pearl. A black and gold colour theme may be difficult to achieve for dresses, as you will typically wear a white dress. However, the contrast of the black will make your dress stand out even more, creating a showstopping look!

Some bolder options for colour palettes are jewel tones, metallics and vibrant pops of colour. Themes with bright colours can be difficult to implement, as it can be difficult to coordinate a complicated theme with bright colours, especially with outfits. You may choose to keep the setting a classic white and add a pop of colour to the outfits. Or, you may even keep classically subtle coloured outfits with one or two bright colours in the setting for contrast.

Ultimately, colour choice is up to personal preference. Make sure to choose a palette that you believe looks good and also reflects you and your partners’ personal styles, and fits the venue.

Accessories & Accents

Accessories and accents are the vital finishing touches that will make or break your chosen theme. Accessories can take a wedding from having a beach venue to a tropical hawaiian summer style wedding. For outfit accessories, headbands, feathers, pearls and gloves will make perfect outfit accessories to add to the dress code. For the couple getting married, vintage jewellery, pocket squares and boutonnieres will make a unique outfit.

Candles, curtain tassels and feathers make for the perfect add ons to your wedding to add some 1920s flare. If you decide on a black and gold theme, gold candle holders, curtain tassels and cutlery will be the perfect way to express this theme though smaller details. Of course, no 1920s themed wedding is complete without way too many giant feathers in your hair and in the decorations, so don’t shy away from a beautiful feathered table centrepiece!

Overall, these tips should help you to perfect your 1920s style wedding and have an absolutely fabulous night!

It’s not uncommon for party ideas to follow current trends. One emerging trend in recent years is the prioritisation of healthier lifestyle choices among people. 60% of consumers worldwide say that the pandemic has made them more conscious of preventing health problems by leading a healthy lifestyle in the long term. In turn, 73% of survey respondents said they plan to eat and drink more healthily. Consumers are also developing an increasingly holistic understanding of good nutrition, not just for weight loss but for other aspects of our physical and mental health.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that parties should stop being fun and entertaining. There are ways to get friends and loved ones involved in one’s health journey. Even modern weight loss programs today centre on one’s social circle, family, and cultural traditions to influence diet and exercise habits. We can stay inspired and accountable by working together towards positive health and weight goals.

With the right party planning and an eye for health-centric activities, supportive friends can throw parties for health- and diet-conscious loved ones without compromising fun, memorability, and joy. Below, we’ll look at some party planning ideas for the health-conscious:

Choosing health-appropriate venues

As with planning for other parties, choosing the right venue that can accommodate the health-centred activities you have planned for the party is essential. Recently, spa and wellness studios and centres have become popular venues for health-conscious Christmas parties. On top of having wellness facilities to cater to the health-conscious, some of these studios may offer personalised extras such as healthy foods and beverages.

Of course, if spas and saunas aren’t your thing, you can always look for more flexible venues that allow other health and wellness party activities, like venues with large open spaces or outdoor gardens. After all, what’s important is ensuring that the partygoers are comfortable and having fun.

Serving healthy menu items

Venue aside, another key component of your health-conscious party is a healthy menu to match. In a previous post on planning small social gatherings, we highlighted the importance of bespoke cocktail and food offerings. Just as you would name signature cocktails and menu items after your guest of honour or personality, you can also prioritise healthy party foods that cater to your guests’ tastes and dietary restrictions.

Serving up healthy food doesn’t mean you have to put the whole party on a strict diet regimen. Instead of store-bought chips and dips, for example, consider Greek feta dip or blueberry salsa for more nutrients. You also don’t have to skip desserts. Instead, look into no-bake treats like key lime cream pie or banana crumb pudding.

Planning healthy group activities

Finally, now that you’ve got the venue and food down, you’ll want health-centric group activities — or party games — that fit the theme. Thankfully, most party games and activities involve some sort of group physical activity, so you’ve got half the work cut out for you. Even parties involving families and children can be made healthy with backyard party games that keep everyone moving, like DIY obstacle courses or a good old scavenger hunt.

You can also look into more wellness-inspired activities for the more refined partygoers. In our section on venues, we mentioned spa and wellness studios. These are great for group spa sessions to keep everyone healthy and engaged. You could also set up group hikes or walks that lead to the eventual party and food.

Ultimately, no party is impossible to plan — even healthier ones. Keeping your guests and their health in mind means you don’t have to skimp on delicious food and beautiful venues. Your friends and loved ones will appreciate the health boost, and it’s a great, wholesome way of getting everyone together to have some healthy fun.

Hey Party Planners!

Ever found yourself in a pickle, trying to whip up a party menu at the eleventh hour? I know, I’ve been there too! Sometimes when planning a party, it’s easier to go with what you know, especially if you haven’t had time to plan ahead.

Let’s talk about food – the make or break of any event.

The last thing you want is your guests whispering about the lackluster spread. But hey, no stress! If you’re scrambling for ideas and need something quick, tasty, and with no surprises, fast food catering could be your knight in shining armor.

Why Fast Food Catering?

First off, let’s get real – we’re not talking about gourmet, but we are talking convenience, familiarity, and something that can please a crowd. Fast food catering is a lifesaver when you’re short on time or want to keep things simple yet satisfying.

In this article, we’re dishing out an honest review and our unfiltered opinions on ordering fast food for catering from some popular restaurant chains across Australia.

Which Fast Food Chains Have an Easy Ordering System? (Opinion)

Let’s kick things off with the ease of ordering. Nobody wants to wrestle with a complicated ordering system when the clock’s ticking. In my experience, chains like KFC and Domino’s have made their ordering process a breeze. With user-friendly websites and apps, you can sort your party feast in just a few clicks! Subway also offer catering: however I had a rather disappointing experience because they wanted to cancel my order last minute.

Which Fast Food Chains Offer Catered Options (List)

  • KFC: Buckets of chicken, ample sides, and meal deals perfect for groups.
  • Domino’s: Variety of pizzas and sides that cater to different dietary preferences.
  • Subway: Offers sandwich platters – a healthier option with customisable choices.
  • Red Rooster: Good for hearty meals including roast chicken and sides.
  • Guzman Y Gomez: Yummy Mexican options
  • Sushi Train: Awesome sushi catering platters in all sizes.

Does McDonald’s Offer Catering?

A big question I often hear is about McDonald’s. As of my latest check, McDonald’s in Australia doesn’t offer a specific catering service. However, you can still make large orders through their app or in-store. They are more than happy to oblige and make it super easy. Just be prepared for a bit of a wait during peak hours.

Wrapping It Up

To wrap things up, fast food catering can be a total game-changer for your next event. It’s all about convenience, familiarity, and satisfying those comfort food cravings. Just remember to order ahead to avoid any last-minute rushes, and you’re all set for a fantastic party!

Every birthday has a different flavour. Some are huge celebrations whilst others are highly anticipated – and some seem to just pass us by (30th birthdays, we’re looking at you!).

There are many ways to acknowledge and celebrate your birthday, no matter how old you are. But if you’re finding yourself feeling a little lost on how to top last year’s birthday shindig, then this is the read for you.

Let’s look at 6 ways to celebrate your birthday at any age. Remember, your age shouldn’t dictate how you feel about your birthday so these ideas are for people of all ages.

Plan a special activity or experience

If you’re gearing up to celebrate a milestone birthday (like your 30th), then this may be the year to go all-out and throw a birthday party that could’ve easily come to you in a dream. In other words, make your birthday party an experience. Hire a clear marquee, set up some fancily clad picnic tables, prepare some finger sandwiches, and create your own garden party.

And if you’re not the party-planning type, then why not plan an actual experience for your birthday that can be enjoyed all by your lonesome or with some friends and loved ones in tow? Planning an experience for your birthday is a great way to remember this significant day in years to come.

This experience can be anything as well. For instance, if you like to be outdoors, you could plan a camping trip or a hike. If you prefer creative activities, then you may want to attend a sewing class or an art expo. Whatever you do decide, remember to choose an experience that best aligns with your interests and values so that it can feel like a genuine celebration of you and what makes you you. And remember – life is made up of experiences and not possessions, which is all the more reason to prioritise experiences on your special day!

Travel to a special destination

A birthday is a great excuse to travel somewhere you’ve either never been before or perhaps even to a destination that captured your heart long ago. You can make this a day trip out of town or you can linger a little longer and make a weekend out of it. Try and choose somewhere that you can have fun, but also somewhere that you can be peaceful and reflect.

And like most things, travel is always fun with some company so flag your desire to travel early so that your friends and family can join you unless you want to travel solo! If you don’t have the time to go on a big adventure, then simply explore unseen destinations in your own state or region.

Treat yourself with some wellness appointments

If there is ever a day to dedicate to yourself, it is your birthday. So why not book yourself some time at your favourite spa in order to get some much-needed personal wellness time?

Treating yourself to a facial, massage, and other intimate treatment will have you looking forward to your birthday all year long. Choose a treatment or activity that you never invest in but always daydream about, as these moments come by so rarely and you should treat yourself with something meaningful.

Do something meaningful

Volunteering and donating time is something that makes everyone feel fantastic. There is a lot of data to suggest that contributing in a meaningful way to our community has exponential benefits for our mental health. Think deeply about a cause that is important to you, and start researching how you can volunteer. You might like to help out at your local community centre, or an opportunity shop or even see what services are available for community members facing insecure housing. This might be something you have never considered for your birthday, but it will be an experience that you do not forget.

Do something commemorative

Are you someone who likes to commemorate a significant moment and create mementos for the future? Perhaps you can do something significant for your next birthday, and immortalise the moment by taking a photo you can frame, or by revisiting a significant life event.

Scrapbooking is a fun activity to enjoy, and it will allow you to face some of the great experiences in your life, prompting some great reflection on an already meaningful day. And contrary to popular belief, arts and crafts activities aren’t just perfect for kids parties. Adults can also get plenty of joy from working with their hands to preserve all their favourite memories. And who doesn’t want to spend a day as meaningful as your birthday honouring past experiences?

Plan a celebratory feast

Finally, you shouldn’t be cooking on the day of your birthday. This means that a celebratory birthday dinner just has to be on the cards. Now is the time to consider which of the best restaurants you’ll be celebrating at! Choose one of those restaurants you have been meaning to try and get your family and friends together for a memorable meal.

A festive meal can be a great excuse to get people together and dressed up and reflect on the past year. If possible, try and choose a cuisine that you do not often eat, so that there is a real sense of occasion to this meal. Maybe get together at a French restaurant or go for a Cambodian feast, really anything that’s a bit more exciting than the standard pub feed.

Which of these six ideas are you going to pursue for your next birthday? There are so many ways to celebrate a birthday at any age, so do not think that you need to wind down the excitement and creativity as you get older!

Pros and Cons of Outdoor Weddings: What Every Couple Should Know https://confettifair.com.au/pros-and-cons-of-outdoor-weddings-what-every-couple-should-know/ Sat, 02 Sep 2023 13:36:06 +0000 https://confettifair.com.au/?p=18970 You go about dreaming of your perfect wedding day, and as you’ve gone about planning the special occasion, you’ve arranged everything from the flowers to the catering to the photographer for the stunning pictures and memories you want to capture so that you can treasure them for years to come.  The one thing you’ve often [...]

You go about dreaming of your perfect wedding day, and as you’ve gone about planning the special occasion, you’ve arranged everything from the flowers to the catering to the photographer for the stunning pictures and memories you want to capture so that you can treasure them for years to come.

The one thing you’ve often thought about is where to host the event, and you’ve often dreamed about having it as an outdoor wedding.

Hence, when deciding on an outside event, you may ask yourself what are some of the reasons to do so and what may hinder the idea.

From open-air and cost-effective savings to that of council planning and exposure to unknown events.

Therefore, let me guide you on what you need to know if and when you choose to have an outdoor wedding, whether it is in a public space or that of a more personal and intimate occasion.

Pro: Choice of Venue

One of the benefits of having an outdoor wedding is you can be a bit more versatile with your choice of venue. From that of the ceremony to the reception.

A way to make this a bit more relaxed yet functional is to use a white marquee for hire or clear span tent. These can be cost-effective and adaptable to a variety of locations, which can be made comfortable for a large number of guests.

However, having your wedding outdoors does expose you to the elements and this can include your guests as well. Therefore, when using a marquee, be sure to secure it in place well so as to guard everyone and your event against the weather conditions. This way, both you and your guests can have a great setup venue, no matter where your location is or what the weather may have in store for you.

Con: Weather Can Be Unpredictable

While in a perfect world, every couple would have a wedding day full of blue skies and sunshine, the truth is that an outdoor wedding leaves certain factors out of your control, and that includes the weather that is predicted for the day.

Be sure to check the weather forecast, but even so, don’t tie things down until 2-3 days before, even if you have to look outside on the wedding morning.

Whether it’s wind, rain or snow, there is no true way to force perfection. However, you should know how certain seasonal elements can affect the day. Nevertheless, whether blustery or wet, there is the important thing to remember – the marriage. The true reason you are doing it all in the first place. You love the person, that’s what matters.  Plus, there’s the old belief that rain on one’s wedding day predicts longevity and prosperity, as a sign of weathering any trial and tribulation.

Pro: The Beauty of Nature on Public View:

Embracing the setting of an outdoor wedding provides an incomparable advantage, immersing yourself and your guests in the awe-inspiring beauty of nature. Whether it’s in verdant parks adorned with old, character-filled trees, meticulously manicured gardens bursting with a spectrum of colourful blooms, or even a beach with its sprawling expanse of azure waters and golden sand, these locales offer a feast for the eyes and the soul.

The resulting professional wedding photography can be truly stunning, with the natural landscape providing a vibrant, dynamic canvas that no indoor venue could replicate. Moreover, imagine the exquisite tableau created at the reception with tables lovingly set against a backdrop of blooming flowers or beneath a canopy of twinkling stars.

Indeed, this use of nature’s artistry in crafting a deeply memorable atmosphere, filled with fresh air, sunshine or starlight, and the soft sounds of nature’s orchestra, truly underscores the natural beauty of outdoor weddings. It’s not just a pro; it’s a compelling argument for choosing an outdoor wedding to celebrate your love.

Con: Allergies And Insects

Depending on the season and location of your wedding, different types of bugs could come into play, potentially disturbing the ambience of the occasion. For instance, you might find mosquitos buzzing around dusk events, or bees attracted to floral arrangements during the day. Unwanted insect guests can not only be a nuisance but can also lead to uncomfortable bites and stings. Therefore, you may need to incorporate bug repellants or citronella candles into your planning, which could subtly alter the aesthetic and atmosphere of your wedding.

Additionally, the great outdoors can pose issues for guests with allergies. Many people suffer from sensitivities to pollen, grass, or other plant-based allergens commonly found in outdoor settings. During peak allergy seasons, symptoms can range from mild discomfort, like sneezing or itchy eyes, to more severe reactions that could significantly impact a guest’s ability to enjoy the festivities. This is especially important if either the couple or close family members have known allergies. To mitigate these issues, consider the season, specific flora at the location, and potentially having allergy medication available.

Pro: Can Support a Large Guest List

Another benefit of using an outdoor venue for your wedding day is that there is less of a limit to how many guests you can have at the special occasion. If you have the budget for a grand scale event, then this is where an outdoor wedding venue can allow you to really host a large group of family and friends.

However, with that being said, don’t forget to acknowledge how much you can afford or are willing to spend on everything. Just remember that, if you do a public space and catering, there is usually a per-head price, and the more guests you invite, the more expensive it is likely to be for you, so choose wisely.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, there are several key aspects to contemplate when planning an outdoor wedding. You might opt for a small, intimate gathering under a hired marquee or, alternatively, a larger event in a public space. If you decide on a public venue, it’s crucial to plan ahead and apply for necessary permits well in advance. Weather is an important factor to consider, although it’s essential not to over-prepare and cause undue stress. An outdoor wedding provides the flexibility to invite a substantial number of guests, but keep in mind that a larger guest list could potentially escalate costs. Balancing these factors will aid you in planning a memorable and well-organised outdoor wedding.

All the best for your future plans!

Nothing quite shouts EXTRA like getting your hair done with cool colours, cute clothes, sunnies and your BFFs! Throw in Barbie and some delicious desserts and its the best day ever.

This party was featured in the July 2022 edition of the Confetti Fair Mini Mag, see more pics here!

Don’t forget to scroll down to the bottom to find the Sydney party suppliers who can help you recreate this look.

Details from the Barbie Extra Party Theme

One can never get enough of a Barbie party! So when CottonOn released their Barbie EXTRA clothes range around about the time of the 2021 lockdown, we knew we definitely had to grab our girl gang and get shooting.

After having to postpone twice due to spicy flu (thanks but no thanks COVID), we were ready to rock! Rather than the traditional pink, we wanted to pay homage to the fun, colour and message that Barbie conveys. Including some retro elements was also a must, because Barbie just has that nostalgic effect on all of us! Lots of bright colours, a life-size boom box and a Barbie box lay the foundation for our backdrop.

Now no outfit, especially when it is EXTRA is complete without coloured hair and braids, thank you to Sydney’s queen of braids The Braid Boss! With each little one dressed in their outift and hair done, it was time to sit down to a table of desserts!

Our Cricut got a workout on this shoot, which was super exciting as each girl got a Barbie quote on their meal box and a personalised bottle.
So many smiles, fun and happiness…oh to be a kid again!

Top Tips for Creating the Perfect Party Cake

It’s an exciting rush diving into party planning for your own celebration! However taking that extra leap to create your own cake – whether that be for a birthday or even an engagement – can be a little overwhelming

Let me help you feel more confident in the kitchen. Here are some big cake do’s and don’ts to ensure your celebration cake is a big success!

—————

DON’T: Leave your baking to the last minute – you’ll be in a rush, cut corners and you ultimately won’t be happy with the finished product.

DO: Make your cake and icings in advance to save on time leading up to the party. Simply pop it in the freezer and defrost the day before. So many cake decorators freeze their cakes and icings, so ignore those freezer-naysayers! Would you believe me if I told you it actually makes the cake more moist?

—————

DON’T: Bake from scratch if you aren’t confident with baking. It’s stressful!

DO: Take advantage of packet mixes or pre-made cakes – this saves you time and the headache of trying to bake that perfect cake. I promise that your guests won’t think any less of you!

—————

DON’T: Decorate with warm or room temperature cake, as it’s very fragile. The cake will be very soft, which means it’s tricky to handle and prone to cake breakage. Additionally, placing icing on a warm cake is a recipe for disaster!

DO: Decorate with chilled cakes for stability and less crumbs in your icing. For chilled cake layers, pop your cakes in the fridge for at least 2 hours before decorating.

—————

DON’T: Stack domed cake layers on top of each other – the cake will be uneven, unstable and inevitably start to lean.

DO: Trim your cake layers flat before stacking and icing your cake.

DON’T: Place your cake in direct sunlight or in a hot space – we don’t want all of your hard work melting away and falling apart!

DO: Keep your cake in a cool (and in some cases, dry) climate. If the party is outdoors, place the cake outside just before guests arrive. If it’s sunny outside, make sure you keep your cake in a shaded area.

—————

I hope these cake-tips help you to sweeten your skills so you can create the perfect cake for your next party!

Personalise and Customise Your Decor

1. Make personalised bonbons with these popular blank bon bons. Customise using a Cricut or other cutting machine, or grab some letter stickers from Officeworks.

2. Design a cake topper using icons and fonts from Canva or similar. You can print it out at Officeworks on a thick cardstock. Cut around it and stick it to a skewer. Voila!

Get Creative Around The Home

3. Create simple yet effective door decor by creating adding a sign with the year, a wreath, some greenery and done!

4. Design something yummy like this Christmas themed lolly grazing platter, made using various Allen’s brand lollies and Arnott’s biscuits. Like the Christmas tree platter? You can buy it here.

Get the Craft Materials Out

5. Create your own wrapping paper with Kraft paper roll, washi tape, paint and markers

6. Cut out stars and bauble shapes out of felt to create your own themed decorations!

7. Print out a 2D fireplace to create a faux Christmas mantle scene, like we did here! You can then print it out at Officeworks. If you order it on thinner paper, it costs less than $20 to get one printed at A0 size, which is pretty huge!

Christmas is busy enough without spending hours decorating your lunch or table in preparation of your Christmas Day festivities. We spoke to the team at Decorated Table, who have put together a few table decorating ideas that will help you add that magic Christmas touch in less time than it takes to enjoy a piece of pudding!

KEEP IT TRADITIONAL

There is nothing easier than a ready-made garland to quickly add decoration to your Christmas table. Of course, if you are feeling adventurous, you can start with a plain garland and add your own decorations. Here I have used a traditional ready decorated green garland with gold decorations and simply added some clear glass tea light holders with tea lights to add some instant warmth and movement to the table. Don’t forget that when having candles at the dinner table, ensure they are unscented as not to interfere with the scents of the dinner. This quick decorating idea will take you no more than 5 minutes and your friends and family are sure to be impressed.

DOUBLE DUTY DECOR

Beautiful food items work hard and can be used for multiple purposes. Cinnamon is a perfect example. If you want your house to smell like Christmas without the worry of burning scented candles, just add cinnamon sticks to your décor!

CHRISTMAS IS A BALL

Vases aren’t just for flowers! Use small glass vases with Christmas tree decorations (the standard baubles look great) to make a table centrepiece. The use of Christmas decorations on your table is an easy and cost-effective way of carrying your decoration theme from your tree to your table. Use any colour scheme – bright, metallic or pastels. Just remember, whatever you decide to use if you place a white tablecloth or runner underneath it will really make your decorations stand out (and give you instal-worthy snaps). Happy holiday entertaining!

THE PARTY BEBE’S EMILY JABOUR SHOWCASES THESE QUICK TREATS THAT EVEN THE BUSIEST OF PARTY PLANNERS CAN MAKE!

The holiday season is upon us, and whilst I love baking festive treats with my little ones, with back-to-back Christmas parties and events I also need to be able to come up with some super quick party treats. Here are two Christmas party food ideas that will literally take two minutes to make (the kids will love to help make these too, so make sure there are some spare cookies available for them to get creative)! A big thank you to Charlie’s Cookies for providing the delicious cookies for these party treats!

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

SANTA BELT COOKIES

  • 1 packet red iced cookies, macarons or melting moments. Charlie’sCookiesRaspberry Melting Moments were used inthis recipe
  • Black writing icing or melted dark chocolate
  • White icing or melted white chocolate

REINDEER COOKIES

  • Writing icing
  • Smarties or M&M’s for the nose
  • 1 packet gingerbread cookies (these onesareCharlie’s Cookies Gingerbread Bears,(turned upside down and iced onto theback of the cookie) which were perfect.

METHOD

SANTA BELT COOKIES

  1. Start by piping or drawing the belt onto the cookie with black writing icing or melted darkchocolate. (I used Queen writing icing).
  2. Pipe on the two round buttons above the belt. (I made a royal icing and then piped the buttonson, but you could use melted white chocolate, white writing icing, or even mini marshmallows.)
  3. Allow to set and then enjoy!

REINDEER COOKIES

These adorable cookies won’t last long on the dessert table! Rudolf has never looked sweeter!

  1. Pipe a mouth, ears, eyes and antlers on to thecookie.
  2. Add icing to the back of a Smartie or M&M and place the nose onto the cookie and allow to set.

CHRISTMAS IS AN EVER CHANGING HOLIDAY. FROM ITS BEGINNINGS WITH THE BIBLE AND PAGAN IDEAS TO MODERNITY, TRADITIONS ARE VAST AND TRANSIENT. HERE ARE SOME TRADITIONS THAT HAVE CHANGED IN THE PAST FEW YEARS.

CHRISTMAS CARDS VS DIGITAL WISHES

Whilst no-one will deny the beauty and power of sending out a handwritten greeting, the truth is that when you’re running out of time to get things done, it’s just too easy to log-on, find a pretty picture and press send! You know your second cousin who you never see and that old work friend won’t mind.

LOTS OF GIFTS FOR EVERYONE VS MINIMALIST & CHARITY GIVING

It seems everyone is gifting lighter and smarter. But no ones missing out! With the emergence in popularity of health and environmental issues everyone is over the materialistic gluttony of years past and is participating in family and friend wide KK, or donating to a charity instead of buying a gift. With the launch of gifting apps parents can now even organise for givers to put in towards something substantial and out of reach for kids, rather than 20 unwanted space depriving gifts.

MAKING A GINGERBREAD HOUSE VS THREE-INGREDIENT DESSERT RECIPES

Gingerbread houses…I know they’re doing it in Bad Moms 2 but that doesn’t mean it’s a thing, right? I mean, ain’t nobody got time for that! Give me a no-bake 3 ingredient internet recipe any day!

LEAVING OUT MILK & COOKIES FOR SANTA VS REINDEER FOOD

Aah, the magic of milk and cookies on the mantle!Made the idea of Santa so real! But what about his ride? Well, that’s where reindeer food comes in. Upon research, I found out that it is a curious mix of oats, sequins and glitter! Magical yes but I hope no one is putting it outside to be eaten by the birds. Keep it right next to Santa’s treats!

SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN VS ELF ON THE SHELF

Back in the day, being told Santa knew if we were naughty or nice, was freaky enough. Nowadays, Santa is just too busy so we have the creepy little elf keeping a watchful eye for the man himself.

CRAFTED STOCKINGS VS PERSONALISED SANTA SACKS

Remember the stock standard plain red stockings? The deluxe version, if you were lucky, had lovely felt trees and baubles glued on. None of that these days! Now we have super-luxe personalised Santa Sacks in gorgeous metallic lettering. I know which one I prefer!

This pretty kids Halloween party, submitted by Courtney of the House Party Collective over in the US (based in O.C, California and Utah), was an epic and modern Halloween extravaganza of a party!

Details from the pastel Monster Mash Bash

Make sure you scroll right to the bottom of the page to find the list of O.C vendors featured in this party, and don’t forget to check out their socials for more photos!

Some highlights from this party included a beautiful white jumping castle (bounce house), a skeleton clad candy graze for the table, a shag cake featuring scary monster teeth and an epic self-serve candy wall (we are in love)!

Here us a little more about this party from Courtney.

“Our vision was to create a kids halloween party where pastels are the new orange with a twist of funky. We used  traditional Halloween pieces in our floral vases and created a feast for the kids on our kid’s  luxury tables and chairs. We made the ombre backdrop and set up some of our party rentals including a modern bounce house, candy carts and dressed up my kids and their friends to be the characters of the party. Other vendors in our community came together with balloons and treats for this Monster Mash Bash!”

Leanora’s Witch Hat Atelier themed birthday party, submitted by L.A mum, Victoria P was a beautiful rendition of a very unique and intriguing theme!

The theme of this party Witch Hat Atelier, is based on a Japanese manga book about a girl named Coco, who dreams of being a witch. It featured a colour scheme of teal, peach and gold.

This party featured a beautiful balloon installation that really brought the book cover to life, and a whole heap of vintage touches!

Make sure you scroll all the way to the bottom to find party vendors and suppliers in LA who can create this look for you!

Details from the Witch Hat Atelier Themed Birthday Party

Here us a little more about this party from stylist Victoria.

When my niece requested a Witch Hat Atelier theme, I was a little stumped. I didn’t know much about Japanese manga but was intrigued. I did a bit of research and made her Witch Hat Atelier dreams come alive. The focal point of decor was the giant diamond arch we rented from 3 Little Birds that we filled up with a beautiful balloon installation done by Amour Balloons.

It featured Coco, the character from the book, flying in to resemble the cover of the book. I changed the wording to read Leanoras Witch Atelier, Volume 8 since Lea was turning 8.

Creative Amme did adorable signage for this one inclusive of a welcome sign and place cards for each plate. We had goblets for a whimsical feel and stunning floral arrangements put together by Love Note Events. Her arrangements stole the show with the addition of hand painted stems from haus of stems. The idea was to make the tablescape feel like a mystical meeting of the witches.

We had crystal balls as centerpieces and mini cauldrons and brooms with each child’s name. Dien from SweetDeetails absolutely stunned with her whimsical cake and hand painted cookies. Alissa Swedlow created custom water color painted menus that fit perfectly onto my place settings. Camp Lila set up the cutest potion making station where the children made potion.

We also had them drawing spells similar to the witches in the book series. Leanora was so thrilled with her
unconventional theme. I hope she remains as non conforming as she is today.

Ivy’s butterflies and blooms high tea party was a beautifully inspired retro-vintage affair worthy of sharing! This celebration was submitted by Noosa, QLD -based caker, Ellana of SweetP Cakes and Cookies.

This butterflies and blooms party featured gingham touches, beautiful florals and an abundance of delectable desserts, including a show-stopper flower laden cake. The colour scheme featured pinks and pastels.

Details from the butterflies and blooms high tea party

The dessert selection included cookies, cupcakes and donuts – all perfectly embellished with florals in keeping with the theme. The savoury selections were not forgotten either – with scones, pies and sandwiches finished off with beautiful greenery and dainty flowers. The buttercream cake, in addition to the florals, also sported delicate edible printed butterflies.

The low picnic table was adorned with vintage cups, flower vases of various heights and sizes, and flower shaped plates flanking flower patterned charger plates.

One of our favourite items was the beautifully illustrated invitation featuring exquisitely illustrated florals and beautiful vintage fonts.

We recently held a spaced themed 7th birthday for a special little kid. Throwing together store-bought decor with custom items is one of our favourite ways to style a party! For this party, we thought we would make a sign loosely based on the invitation design.

Here was the invitation design:

We decided to try out the new Cricut Smart Stencil material to see how it would go. One of my favourite things about this material is that it does not require a mat (like all the Smart Cricut products)! Here are the steps we took to create the sign!

As I had the design in PDF format, it was very easy for me to recreate an arch in Cricut Design Space, and simply extract the text and stars as PDF to import into the Design Space.

The first thing I did was create the arch, which I was initially going to incorporate into the design, but then decided against as I was nervous about being able to line it up evenly on the board.

I found the arch in the ‘Shapes’ section, but it was a little long for my liking, so I dropped a square into the spot where I wanted to ‘cut’ it, and used the ‘slice’ tool to resize it.

VIDEO: Slicing an Arch Shape in Cricut Design Space

As I wanted the arch to be a border, and not filled in, I edited it to make it a thick lined border.

VIDEO: Converting a filled shape into an outlined shape

Finally, I added my custom elements in a .png format, which meant I didn’t need to erase the background in Design Space (I do love this feature though)!

For the board, we had an old white MDF board lying around. It was approximately 300mm x 450mm), so the final design including the arch was sized at 270mm x 400mm. We painted the background purple in keeping with our theme

We actually painted it using wall paint so it was nice and even after one coat. It did need just a little touch up though.

After cutting and weeding, we peeled the stencil from the liner and stuck it down to the board. We individually picked up the insides of the letters O, A, B and D with tweezers and stuck them down manually, but a better way to do this is to just use the light grip transfer tape.

The sheet stuck down very well to the board, we used our hands to ensure it was nicely adhered. You can also use a scraper or a brayer if you need to.

For the painting of the letters, stars and sun, we used the Kadink poster paint from Officeworks as we wanted the painted texture to be obvious, especially on the sun. We gave it a couple of coats. These paints are also great value!

We let it dry for an hour before peeling. We love how it turned out!
