A 70s throwback party for Valentine’s Day

Above; Our dancing Queen!

Couldn’t forget the disco balls and roller skates. Oh, and some crochet!

We started off by creating some cubes with retro art and messages love and anything else that made us happy! Dancing, music, cake and more!

The cubes are actually 30cm x 30cm boxes from Officeworks. I really loved how they turned out, I will probably use them again soon! I first painted some of the size with this shimmery poster paint, also from Officeworks,  then printed out my designs and stuck them on.

Using our Cricut Joy, we made some awesome accessories to jazz up our party! For this party, we made; 

• A cake topper
• Large sign
• 2 necklaces

We already had the acrylic signage, topper blank (thanks to Studio T55) and round keyring blanks (Ebay) for the necklaces. The Cricut Joy is the perfect way to customise them and reuse them for when needed. 

We used the Light Pink Smart Vinyl.

We mostly use the designs available in the Cricut Design Space app, as there are plenty of designs and images to use. I thought this flower would be perfect for a 70’s vibe! 

Sometimes, if I have a specific design in mind, I’ll use Adobe CC Express (alternative to Canva). You simply export your design as a transparent PNG, and you can then seamlessly import it into the Cricut Design Space app, which I love. 

Here is a link for the topper design, which was a heart encircled by the words ‘Love is what we need’.

No retro party is complete without an appropriate cake, so we ordered two vintage piped cakes, with appropriate messaging of course! These were very cute vintage mini cakes were ordered from Caked By Zena in Sydney.

A sweet boho tween birthday party

Taylor celebrated turning 10 in boho style, gathering her girl squad for a luxe high tea picnic in the meadow. They crafted beautiful flower crowns from fresh blooms and giggled over cupcakes and pink lemonade.

The party was hosted at the picturesque Teavine House on the Gold Coast hinterland. It comprised of an interactive flower crown workshop led by a professional florist, Leena from Winter in Bloom, culminating in a delicious feast of sweet treats and savoury canapes served on charming tiered platters.

The vintage-inspired setting featured white lace and boho accents, plus a touch of sparkle combining to create a fresh, fun and elegant look. The young guests loved sharing secrets inside the beautiful white lace tepee, while stunning balloon garlands from Love and Wishes Styled Events were adorned with fresh florals matching those in the girls’ crowns.

We wanted a fresh and fun take on the floral boho theme to compliment the flower crown activity. The chosen colour scheme of neutrals with white and gold, and just a hint of blush, was perfect for Taylor’s 10th birthday celebration – elegant, but still sweet and girly.

Baby Carter’s elegant boho baby shower

What better way for a mumma-to-be to celebrate than with a daytime soirée where the venue already fits the theme! Carmen from Riverwood weddings created the perfect picnic for baby Carter’s baby shower!

Riverwood Estate, located within the northern gold Coast hinterland, was the dream wedding venue for Sophie’s I do’s 5 years ago, as her families’ private home. Now, it functions as a full private residence Wedding venue as Riverwood weddings. For her Baby shower, it was only fitting that Sophie hosted a laid back and luxurious daytime soirée with her friends at Riverwood. Engaging her sister and venue coordinator Carmen to plan and put together all the finer details, Baby Carter’s shower for the mumma-to-be was a beautifully elegant boho themed picnic.

Going for a relaxed boho picnic, carmen collaborated with Cushla from Alfresco Styling & Events, one of the Gold Coast’s first pop-up picnic stylists as this was exactly the laid-back style they sought for the Daytime event. “For seating, we used a mix of high and low white tables – we provided our custom made low whitewash timber cube tables with a selection of mix match cushions to suit the baby boy shower’s soft colour scheme of greys and beige.

Each individual setting included a water glass, wine glass and grey linen napkins with our white plates with brass/gold cutlery. The idea was to give it a light dusting of blue and gold throughout the set up which looked amazing with the white tables and white peacock chair. To compliment the stunning custom desserts and cake, this dessert display sat on our one of a kind vintage rattan bar which tied in with the relaxed boho theme perfectly. Florals were neutral colour and greenery however we did add touches of blue baby breath through the table setting and on the peacock chair. We provided and set up all florals and the styling items including vases with gold/ brass terrarium lanterns with candles burning and our white vintage peacock chair which again was decorated with blue baby breath.

We challenged 23 talented party vendors to design a party inspired by a USA location.

Fable & Moon chose Kansas and curated a unique take on an Over The Moon / Wizard of Oz party – full of boho vibes, earthy tones, and a slight 70s retro feel!

What made you choose your shoot location for United States of Party?

Kansas automatically made me think of The Wizard of Oz; I’ve had an idea for a boho rainbow shoot for while so saw this commission as the perfect opportunity to bring it to life!

What inspired your shoot?

There is a big earth tone trend in children’s room decor at the moment so I wanted to bring this into a colour scheme for a party! Also, Made by Thu’s beautiful handmade yarn rainbow was a starting point for the feel of the party too!

Did you incorporate any current party trends or DIYs in your shoot? If yes, what were they?

Where we could; we tried to keep everything eco-friendly. We used Coconut Bowls and Meri Meri’s new biodegradable plates! Not necessarily a trend but, I think it’s something we are becoming more aware of. The balloons were also eco-friendly and the flowers all British and homegrown!

This party was held in an amazing building – The Old Parish Rooms, an old schoolhouse from 1863 just outside London.
