What did you want to be when you grew up?
I  have always been so anti-creative, I mean I have not one single creative bone in my body. I have always been an analytical thinker, always drawn to science. I needed the facts! From as young as I can remember I have always wanted to be a doctor, it seemed so perfect. That was until I got to my teens and rebelled and realised how much work I needed to do to become a doctor. The queen of procrastination did what she does best and procrastinated as much as possible. So…fast forward a few years and dream was faded and I was jaded.

What made you start your business?
I kind of stumbled into the marquee lights. Sammy & Lola started as an online kawaii stationery store verging into the realm of partyware, and it wasn’t until we started getting requests to sell letter lights that i started to think about it. I mentioned to my hubby what I was thinking about and he lost it. I mean he could make me seriously awesome handmade wooden lights, like nothing previously seen. With over 15 years in the signage industry, this was perfect and just the start of what Sammy & Lola has become.

What’s the most outlandish job/party you’ve ever done?
We have done quite a few outlandish events, celebrity bashes, big corporate functions, but when you need to sign a non-disclosure agreement for an event, you know that HAS to be BIG and OUTLANDISH!

What would be your ideal party?
My ideal party would super laid back, great food, and awesome company. Located in an old warehouse with gorgeous original industrial vibes and awesome lighting (of course!)

What makes your business unique?
Our business is unique because we meticulously hand craft all our marquee lights to very high standards. We have become well known for the quality of our lights. All our timber is hand selected and come from sustainable sources. All our lights are made from start to finish right here in Sydney within our warehouse. All our lights feature dimmers so creating the perfect lighting is simple. Sammy & Lola lights can be super bright or dim and moody, perfect for all occasions and work well with all lighting within venues. We’re incredibly proud of our lights and we know our clients that choose Sammy & Lola genuinely appreciate the love and attention we put into each and every light. How do we know? They tell us so.

What do you love most about your work?
The best part of what we do is seeing the look on our clients faces when their visions become reality. When we walk into a venue and setup, it always takes our breath away. We are so lucky that we get to share and be a part of some seriously awesome events.

Who do you admire and why?
My mum. She continually inspires me each and every day. She always has faith in me and knows that I can do it. I look at her and hope that one day I can become even half of the woman that she is. I’m incredibly proud and privileged to call her my mum.
