Goldfish themed birthday party

On the blog today, a gorgeous goldfish party complete with beautiful illustrations and stunning touches. This party was styled by Elizabeth of Elk Prints, and features a colour scheme of blue, yellow and orange – evocative of gold fish and ponds.

For Aiden’s 7th Birthday Party he chose a goldfish theme for his celebration. As a serious goldfish lover, we took inspiration from our own fancy breed style goldfish when designing the party.

Tones of yellow gold, orange, black and pearlescent white are therefore quite prominent against the backdrop of blues and greens reflecting the water and pondside reeds.

The invitations, designed by ELK Prints, were printed on a gold lustre paperstock and cut to a pebble shape to evoke the natural organic forms of a goldfish pond.

Aiden’s favourite pet goldfish, sushi, is a red-capped oranda who was captured perfectly by the talented Karen in the pinãta that was a key highlight of the party. The other main party game played was one I designed using the illustrations created for the backdrop where the kids had to toss a ring to “fish” out a goldfish from the pond and collect points with each one given a score based on it’s rarity.

To create the main backdrop layers of streamers in shades of blue and pearlescent created a shimmery ground for the watercolour painted goldfish to swim against. Catherine from Ivy Trail Events created a beautiful set of floral arrangments of pond-inspired botanicals with ‘goldfish’ calla lilies.

For the main birthday cake we made a jelly pond cake which was an interesting baking challenge to accomplish. Our DIY baking also extended to creating some cookies and cupcakes decorated with sugar fondant fish painted with edible food paints from Miss Biscuit and Sweet Sticks.

For the dessert table and thank you bags we also had fun finding special treats like goldfish crackers, Swedish goldfish gummy lollies and Japanese red-bean waffle carp cakes. Cookies from Cookie Queen Kitsch’n were a final beautiful addition to the table that were also a special treat for guests to take home with them as they were printed with same, but edible, artwork used on the invitations.
