Today, we chat to Alex of Ruby Rabbit, one of our fave party shops….yay!

How did Ruby Rabbit get started, and what was the inspiration?
I always wanted to have my own business. To call it my very own, to watch it grow and see what I could achieve!

After many years as a professional event manager working on high profile events in Sydney, I took the leap in 2013, with a natural progression into party and event supplies. I spent 6 months researching the market & sourcing suppliers that were a little bit different to the mainstream party shops. I then started filling my store with products to fit in with trending party themes as well as timeless pieces that would always be sought after. Starting a business is super exciting but also crazy scary!

Where did the name Ruby Rabbit come from?

I wanted something fun, lighthearted and memorable! I also loved the name Ruby.

You research and hand source all of your products what do you look for when selecting the party items to stock in your online store?
I look for a point of difference and how it will complement the other items already in the #partyshop. I listen to our customers and watch buying trends.

What is your all time favourite party product?
A party is not a party without balloons (we agree!) so I would have to say jumbo balloons are my fave!

Do you have a dream party theme that you would love to source and provide party products for?

I love quirky styled parties with bold colours. I would love to work with someone amazing like Geronimo Balloons…have you seen her balloon work, such an art (we have! For all those that haven’t check out their Insta-feed now)!

What are your favourite party trends at the moment?
I’m loving cactus, iridescent and the use of natural greenery.

How do you go about choosing a party theme? Do you have any tips
for how to elegantly carry a party theme through the whole event?
I always use a base of 3 colours and stick to these throughout the entire celebration – from the invitations to the tableware, to decorations and right through to the favour bags. Less is more. I love simplistic yet bold feature pieces, something that your eye is drawn to.
