A beautiful location, gorgeous styling, and a stunningly beautiful kids party! That is how I describe this magical unicorn party by Glamacamp Tent Events in Noosa. The colour scheme for the party was Cotton Candy Pink and Apricot, which look so good together! Lisa from Glamacamp Tent Events takes us through the details below.

Magical Unicorn Party

There’s nothing quite as enchanting as a magical Unicorn Party!
Magical Unicorn Party
Magical Unicorn Party

As the children arrived, they were greeted with the spectacular sight of the set-up. The tent with the golden unicorn head emerged from the natural wildness of the bush in our backyard. The Frame photography led the children in a fanciful direction, guiding them through the adventure, capturing their reactions along the way.

Magical Unicorn Party

‘This is what dreams are made of’, said the parents as the children rushed forward to meet our star of the show, Cherry. She is a unicorn from the Sunshine Coast’s premier horse modelling agency, Your Mane Event. She emerges elegantly crowned and adorned in fresh cut flowers specially made for her that morning by Rambling Rose Cooroy. Cherry looks nothing short of a magical delight, and she was an instant hit with both the children and parents alike. They all rushed forward to give her a cuddle and a pat. So cute, and made my heart melt!

Magical Unicorn Party

The party was styled to create a glamorous exploratory playground for the children to enjoy. It was furnished with luxury details that are made for a celebration to remember! The Glamacamp style has an adventurous spirit, layered with textures and fabrics in soft colours for a magical experience. Peachy pinks and cotton candy with detailed highlights in brass and gold feature.

The picnic table was set up on a gorgeous vintage aqua Turkish rug. The solid wooden French country style table with large marshmallow cushions as seats. Vintage English fine bone china laid on an antique French country kitchen table cloth. The napkins held childhood memories for me, wrapped with the edible necklaces I can remember enjoying as a kid. There were also personalised name tags for each place setting. These were designed together with invitations, thank you, food tags and signage as part of a signature stationary set.

Delicious sweet treats were everywhere for all the children to enjoy! Unicorn biscuits, unicorn donuts and that magical unicorn party cake sat front and centre in the middle of the table. All of the desserts were created the fabulous SweetP Cakes and Cookies. A true visionary delight –almost too good to eat!

Why should kids get all the best parties? Us grown-ups need some fun and colour too sometimes! In today’s post, stylist Julie of Candy Couture takes us through this luxe white and Gold Luxe 50th birthday.

White and Gold Luxe 50th Birthday cake

My client came to me and her brief was that she wanted a dessert bar that was full of delicious desserts and had a luxurious and sophisticated look.

She also wanted a venue that had a sophisticated and luxe feel to it. The Birthday girl has always loved chic and glamour things.

She was very easy to work with, her only request being for a  white and luxurious party! Everything not only looked amazing but tasted divine!

White and Gold Luxe 50th Birthday

White and Gold Luxe 50th Birthday

The venue was Mon Bijou in Melbourne with about 80 guests.

The party was amazing and the guests and hostess were thrilled with all aspects of the party that I had organised. It was a full event styling from finding a venue, accommodation at the Adelphi hotel which is adjacent, DJ (including the playlist for her based on her choice of genres), invitations, flowers, dessert bar, photographer, photo wall and  even her outfit!

White and Gold Luxe 50th Birthday Balloons

Guests walked down the lane toward the venue. I had organised lanterns and candles all the way down. Once they arrived at the entrance they were greeted by staff, a beautiful welcome sign and a glass of bubbles.

White and Gold Luxe 50th Birthday

They were then taken to a VIP photo wall and every guest had their picture taken with the birthday girl. There were cocktails, more champagne and speeches.

White and Gold Luxe 50th Birthday media wall

The guests and hostess were blown away by the all the details of the event and it was a massive party that was enjoyed by all.

Introducing… brownie meme boxes! Greeting cards are so passe…why not say it with brownies!

These perfectly packaged parcels of deliciousness have been recently launched by the talented team from delleiciousbyelle

Perfect for parties, last minute celebrations or gifting, these cute little boxes say so much in so little space! They’re composed of letter-shaped brownies and a mix of treats. The boxes can be customised into any theme you like and favourite treats can also be requested.

To top it off, the brownies are seriously delicious! Ever since starting her business, Elle hunted high and low for the perfect brownie recipe (fudgy and moist in her own words) and it shows. They are totally yum!

Elle has always branched out to create great products within her business, one of her other faves being G-pops (ganache pops). They’re basically cake-popsicles filled with ganache instead of cake. So indulgent!

delleiciousbyelle have been making custom desserts since and have always to stay ahead of the pack with unique products!

PS. We recently celebrated hitting 40k on Instagram with our very own meme box. Check out the pics below!

I really do love the creativity of Aussie party vendors. But I have a soft spot for the USA West Coast Party Vibe!  Hands up if you agree? It’s so colourful, and bright…. must be all that California sun! And this Coachella Party…

California summons up lots of cool things, the Coachella Valley Music festival being one of them. Whats that got to do with a kid’s party you say? Well Make It Stylish Events, a styling team in Bakersfield, California recently styled a Coachella themed kids party and it was awesome!
Delfina, from Make It Stylish, continues below.
Last weekend was a blast for us, we had the chance to style a very special party for a brother and sister (Boston, 5 and Kollyns, 3). The theme chosen for our client was Coachella, and immediately we knew this was going to be something seriously fun.
As Coachella is a crazy, boho music and arts festival and we needed to make it ‘kid style’, we decided to use as much colour as possible and it worked really well!
Our first big decision was to use a tent for the main set up, with lots of balloons garlands all over. For the kid’s setting, we wanted boho style so we chose pallet tables. And last but not least, we wanted something non traditional for the cake / dessert setting. We decided to use different types of furniture on a carpet, mixing colors for a boy and a girl and it worked perfectly. The backdrop was a multicolor organic balloons garland, and a Kidchella cutout that were beyond perfect.
The festival-goers were truly wowed!

This ferris wheel cupcake stand is reminisent of the famous Coachella Ferris Wheel!

Since its beginning, the art of photography has never been far from family life. Whether it’s the arrival of your first newborn, christenings, first steps or birthdays a photographer – especially a kids party photographer – is central to keeping the memory of the occasion. Lucy Leonardi captures these intimate family moments through her candid, natural and fun photographic style.

You can never underestimate the importance a photographer for your event, especially one who you and your kids feel comfortable with. Lucy encourages the lively interaction and natural dynamic of your family. Her pleasant and friendly nature will make you and your little ones feel at ease, resulting in treasured and meaningful family photographs.

Get to know Lucy before booking her for your next do!

Tell us abit about you, Lucy!

I have been a professional photographer since 2004, starting in weddings then, later on adding family photography as I had more and more married couples that I photographed asking me to take pictures of their newborns. I love how I get to see these families multiply and how much their kids grow each year when I get to photograph their family photos or birthday parties. It’s truly an honour!

I studied fine arts majoring in photography and digital arts and I have always been a people person. So after I graduated from my course I ventured into portraitures and haven’t looked back ever since. Along the way, I also fell in love with cooking and food photography and started my own personal side project in 2012 called www.whodoesthedishes.com – documenting cooks in their kitchen cooking up their favourite dishes.

Confetti Fair Magazine cover by Lucy Leonardi
Lucy captured the beautiful image from the cover of Issue 7 of Confetti Fair Magazine.

Tell us about your business.

I love shooting both weddings and families. They both have such different dynamics but equally fun! I am particularly good at capturing both the emotions and details of an event. Many of my clients compliment how my calm personality relaxes them on the day and they can be themselves around me, even their kids. I am happy that I can provide such a service to them.

What inspires you?

My 3-year-old daughter! Since having her I have been learning to see the world through her eyes, it sounds so cliche I know but it’s so true and I am experiencing it a lot which is a blessing. I also love music, colours and textures of plants, cooking, visiting galleries and travelling.

Why do you think having a professional photographer at your events and kids parties is so important?

You might have been planning your kid’s party for months in advance and getting everything looking fabulous for the day. The joy you get from your son/daughter when they see it all come together is so special. Even more so when they are old enough to plan the event with you. Having a professional photographer would give you the ease of having all the details and precious moments captured beautifully. It also leaves you with plenty of quality time to spend with the family and friends on the day. As we all know, a good party always fly by too quickly!

What has been your favourite event to capture so far?

My truly talented friend Daniella of Eve&Co Stationery threw her son the most amazing galactic birthday party. Anywhere I pointed my camera at was just so photogenic! And the best part was Sam the birthday boy had the best birthday party!

When Jennifer of Perfect Party Moments in Perth wanted to throw a party for her daughter’s fourth birthday, she knew exactly what to choose. Little Red Riding Hood was her favourite fairy tale growing up, and now, it was her daughter Karina’s too! Enter the Little Red Riding Hood Party…

There were a few things Jennifer knew she wanted for the party.  An outdoor do, in traditional red and white, with artisan desserts. Thus she set out to engage her regular party vendors, as well as a few new ones. The party was an intimate celebration in the comfort of their backyard. Lush green plants from the backyard were placed around the dessert table and the kids seating to create the feeling of being in the ‘woods’.

In addition to the items supplied by vendors, Jennifer also created some items herself, as she does with all of her parties. She designed all the printables with Red Riding Hood images purchased from Etsy. These included the Welcome Sign, Stay on your Path sign, dessert labels, grandma’s cookies favour bottles and favour boxes filled with additional goodies. Check out the details below!

Jennifer designed labels for the favour boxes, which fit perfectly on the white treat boxes from Favor Lane Party Boutique. They were filled with holders designed by Glitter and Glue Designs. Every kid got to take home a box filled with a crayon box, play dough, a lollipop and a chocolate bar. The parents were happy to take home ‘Grandma’s Cookie Mix’ from Sweet Health Cookie Mix which had Smartie colours to match the theme. This was an amazing favour add-on and a fun activity for the kids to do at home with their family, extending the joy to other family members too!

Little Red Riding Hood Party

The ‘Once Upon a Time’ backdrop for the dessert bar was also made by Jennifer. She meticulously chose all the desserts to ensure they tie in with the theme. There were beautiful ‘toadstool’ and ‘apple’ sugar cookies, and jelly cups by Nancy of  Stak’d Desserts, custom red and white spotted macarons by Rochelle of Chef Baked Treats which were perfect. Finally, as Jennifer put it, “I could not have had my party without the amazing desserts from Nikki Niknakssweetesttreats. Her custard puffs and fudge were YUM and also all matched to the theme.” All the desserts looked perfect when styled together. The shiny balloons were from Favor Lane Party Boutique and polished off the dessert table beautifully.

Nancy from Stakd_Desserts, who made the cake, suggested adding the images on to the cake to tie in with the invite. The cake flavour was chocolate mud with dark chocolate ganache filling.

The kid’s table setting was also a sea of red! The red chairs and tables were ordered from Perth Toy Hire. They were covered with red linen cloth and paired with a red and white dotted table runner. The setting was simple with space for kids to bring some finger food and enjoy also lining up for their faces to be painted in their special animal or character. The bamboo cone holder from The Little Big Company was perfect to serve popcorn!

Little Red Riding Hood Party

The kids had a ‘ball!’ in the ball pit hired from Perth Toy Hire, as well as other play equipment like the see-saw, toy cars and a slide too! Jennifer added that this was the first time she had hired a kids entertainer and face painter and that it was the best decision! Katherine from Encore Kids Parties did a great job. There was also a wolf! Jennifer hired the wolf costume and had a family friend dress up as Mr Wolf.

A Finger Food table featured all of the faves, such as curry puffs, sausage rolls, chicken Satay, Aranchini balls and pinwheel sandwiches by Cherry’s Catering. There was a small antipasto platter, and fresh fruits for the adults too!

In a second instalment from Style Vine Events, we hear from Melissa, who tells us about this pretty little fairy garden party she recently styled.

This party was for a 5th birthday and we wanted something girly that would suit the venue, which was Hazlehurst Gardens in Gymea, Sydney. The gardens are a part of the art gallery and are beautifully manicured with with small enchanted looking pathways and a little river, the perfect little adventure for a fairy!

We hired an entertainer, Mel the fairy and she sprinkled fairy dust and took the girls on little adventures around the garden. We decorated with lots of pinks and a fairy garden theme, fairies hiding everywhere, silver foil through the desserts, cute little macaroons, heart shaped sandwiches, watermelon cubes, mini fairy sushi and more.

Whilst the girls played, the parents relaxed under the trees and were treated to simple but delish platters of crackers, cheeses, cured meats and of course pink champagne with fairy floss (of course).

The birthday girl had the best time and still to this day asks where Mel (the real fairy) might be living and if her wish will ever come true!

I’m so excited to share this party with you today, because it has lots of things that I love!

We’re also huge fans of the neon trend here at Confetti Fair. It’s retro, urban and edgy.  So suitable for a creative and artist hosting her 30th birthday. Marie, the birthday girl, is a fashion designer singer and songwriter.

Marie’s bash was held at Beta Bar in Sydney, a perfect venue with its bare brick wall, a canvas waiting to be dressed for a party.

0318-missmarie-ev-20170930.jpg

Lashings of pink and purple balloons and florals popped out from the mesh backdrop, illuminated by the bright pink signage. The dessert table styling and set up was done by Rock Paper Sugar Events. Personalisation appeared everywhere at this celebration. The neon sign was designed to look like Marie’s label’s logo (Miss Marie the Label). The invitations and welcome sign were custom illustrations featuring the dress she wore on the night, as well as her cake. I also was very impressed to find out that the illustrations were painted by Marie herself!

Marble and geometrics made an appearance, too. Overall, I will have to say this was beautifully executed look for a party featuring so many trends.

Below, the Welcome sign was custom painted by Marie and brought to life as a poster by Rock Paper Sugar Events

0180 MissMarie EV 20170930

The invitation and envelope liner were also adorned with the same design and created by Rock Paper Sugar Events. I love how coordinated everything was. Even these fondant cookies featured Marie’s logotype and the signature floral motif of the party!

The dessert set up, with the fabulous florals, balloons, mesh, brick wall and sweets was totally electrified and illuminated by the neon signage. The magnificent balloon installation was by Born to Party Shop. The stunning ring, a gift from Marie’s partner, was from Heidi Gibson Designs.

Here is a close up of the neon signage, cake topper and desserts. The amazing cake is by andybowdypastry.com (check this cake artist out now if you haven’t done so yet). Yes, they are mini bundt cakes on the side (love)! All of the desserts were made by Kai’s Kitchen, with the exception of the piped cookies, which were made by Piped Dream Cookies. The cake topper was made by Glistening Occasions.

0086-missmarie-ev-20170930.jpg

The treats included the mini bundts (which were infused with rosewater, yum), mini cakes, profiteroles, fairy floss topped donuts and cookies. Plus, check out the detail on those piped cookies! Hearts were another motif that featured in the party.

0135 MissMarie EV 20170930.jpg

There was a pink Moet bottle as well (some for me too, please!). The floral styling by BlossomLove Floral Styling complemented the entire look brilliantly (speaking of brilliant, those colours are intense).

The party also had it’s own custom Snapchat filter, illustrated and designed by Marie of course – so cool!

Pink and purple florals

Marie designed her own insanely fab dress for the night, which was then made by Daniel Learmont

The entire party space was was bathed in pink, which really set the ambiance for the night. The pink bottles of Moet, cookies, and florals were also placed on the tables.

TOTAL TIME: One Hour

You’ll need:

High-Quality White Envelopes (Low quality tears too easily!)
High-Quality White Notecards
Craft Paint in Rainbow Colors
Makeup Sponges or Foam Brushes (One for each color, ideally!)
Washi Tape
T-Shirt

What to do:

1. Washi tape is too sticky on it’s own to place directly on the envelopes, so you have to remove some of the sticky first. Do this by tearing off a piece and sticking it to a t-shirt several times.
2. Lightly place the piece of tape about 1/8″ from the edge of one side of the front of the envelopes.
3. Dip a sponge into your first color and dab it over about a 1″ section of the exposed edge. Repeat this with the other colors, overlapping each one slightly so it blends.
4. Immediately remove the tape after you finish painting one edge. Do this slowly, so as to not rip the paper.
5. Repeat on the opposite edge and let dry completely, then complete the other two sides. Let dry again.
6. After the front is completely dry, it’s time to do the back! Follow the same steps above for doing the flap of the envelope. Let dry.
7. Then tape two pieces of tape about 1/8″ apart along the bottom diagonal lines on the back of the envelope. Sponge in-between the lines and let dry. Done!!
8. Use the same steps as the front of the envelope to do the notecards, if you want a complete set!

One of the hottest trends in the wedding industry, in fact the cake world has to be the naked cake. You may have seen them at weddings, attempted to make one yourself or even ‘pinned’ it on Pinterest. A naked cake features generous layers of cake filled with scrumptious fillings such as buttercream and fruit and with the sides being left un-iced and often styled with gorgeous floral and more fruit. Naked cakes are seen as a whimsical alternative to the more ‘formal’ wedding or event cake and it is the perfect touch for a rustic wedding.

Vanilla cake recipe

Ingredients (Three 8 inch cakes)

  • 3 cups plain flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 250 grams unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 2 cups caster sugar
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk, room temperature

Ingredients (Three 6 inch cakes)

  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 160 grams unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 1/3 cup caster sugar
  • 3 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2/3 cup milk, room temperature

Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius with the rack in the centre of the oven.

Grease three 8 inch round cake pans and then line the bottoms of the pans with baking paper.

In a bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder and salt.

In the bowl of your electric mixer, with the paddle attachment beat the butter until soft and creamy (about 1-2 minutes). Gradually add the sugar and beat until light and fluffy (about 3 minutes).

Add the eggs, beating well after each addition. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.

Add the vanilla extract and beat until combined.

Add the flour mixture into the bowl, alternating with the milk, making sure to begin and end with the flour.

Divide the batter between the cake pans, smoothing the tops. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a cake tester inserted into the centre of the cakes comes out clean.

Let the cakes cool in their pans for about 5 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on wire rack.

Repeat the process above to prepare the 6 inch cakes (using 6 inch cake pans)

French vanilla buttercream

Ingredients:

  • 5 egg yolks
  • 250 grams caster sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 500 grams unsalted butter, room temperature

Place the egg yolks into the bowl of a mixer and whisk until double in volume.

Place caster sugar into a saucepan and add enough water to just cover the sugar. Boil until the sugar syrup reaches 115 degrees Celsius.

Remove the sugar syrup from heat and pour into the egg yolk mixture in a slow steady stream.

Beat the mixture until the bowl is cool to touch (between 10-15 minutes).

Once the mixture is cool, start adding the butter in small amounts. Add the vanilla extract and keep beating the mixture until it is smooth and light in colour.

Tutorial:

Step 1: Bake three 6 inch and three 8 inch cake layers using the vanilla cake recipe. (Images 32, 45, 76, 107, 115, 124, 126)

Step 2: Prepare the buttercream using the French vanilla buttercream recipe (image 159)

Step 3: Once the cakes are completely cool, cut the tops off each cake so that the    stacked cake sits level when assembled (image 143)

Step 4: Trim the edges of the cakes (image 168)

Step 5: Place a layer of the 8” cake on a cake board using some of the buttercream to attach the cake onto the cake board (image 225)

Step 6: Spread desired amount of buttercream making sure it is spread out to the edges of the cake, and stack another layer of cake on top. Repeat with the last 2 layers of cake (images 224 and 258)

Step 7: Repeat steps 5 and 6 using the 6” cake layers.

Step 8: Since this is a tiered cake, you will need to support the cake using dowels or plastic ‘bubble cup’ straws (can be purchased on eBay). I have used 7 bubble cup straws. Insert one straw in the centre of the cake and mark the straw where it needs to be cut. (Image 298)

Step 9: Cut the remaining straws at the exact same length to keep the stacked cake level. Ensure that each straw is at an equal distance away from the other so that the weight of the 6” cake is evenly distributed (images 303 and 311)

Step 10: Place the 6” cake on top of the 8” cake (image 322)

Step 11: Prepare any roses or flowers that you will be using to decorate the cake. Ensure that only pesticide-free and non-poisonous flowers are used to decorate the cake. Trim the roses so that there is only about an inch of stem. Wrap the stems in non-toxic floral tape (Never insert the bare stems into a cake). (Image 289)

Step 12: Dust the entire cake with icing sugar. Decorate the cake using strawberries and raspberries. Place the prepared roses on the cake or if you wish you can attach the roses to the cake by inserting part of the stem into the cake. (Image 350)

Notes

  • Make sure you only use the bubble cup straws as support in smaller cakes (up to a 10” cake) and don’t stack more than 3 cakes tiers high using bubble cup straws. Any larger cakes or more than 3 tiers should have a central dowel/support and larger dowels.
  • Ensure that you use a moist cake when making naked cakes since they don’t have an outer layer of icing to protect it from drying out. If you are worried about the cake being dry, you can brush sugar syrup over the cake before decorating to keep it moist.

Why do girls get to have all fun parties? If you’re like me you’ve probably asked yourself this a few times, albeit quietly, when none of your mates were around. Women can build a party over anything – getting engaged, having a baby, making some pretty cakes…even Tupperware can be as good a reason as any. On the other hand us men have birthdays and, well, buck’s nights. For most of us a party means being as loud as possible, as tough as possible and usually as drunk as possible – anything less is, unfortunately, considered soft.

It wasn’t always like this though. Imagine it’s 1955. Think of the words blokes’ night out – what do you see? Perhaps it’s Sean Connery getting splashed by the pool and saying “don’t worry, my martini’s still dry”. Maybe it’s a bloke standing by the fireplace, pouring his friends tumblers of scotch with one hand and lighting cigars with the other. What happened to these sorts of parties? When did being a gracious host who impresses his friends with good food and premium liquor get outmoded by strippers and beer pong?

The good news is that it really isn’t difficult to put together a dignified alternative to the usual booze up, whilst still maintaining that male camaraderie that makes catching up with your mate so fun. The key concept to understand is that the mature, worldly male is a living understatement – a working knowledge of good food and drink, a good sense of humor and a willingness to go the extra mile for your guests are a fare more telling sign of a man’s man than say, downing a keg and then throwing up in your neighbours rosebush. The second, perhaps more important, thing to realize is that it’s ok to be decorative.

It may help to think of it more in terms of presentation – good food is one thing, but food that is fun to simply to look at elevates eating to a different level entirely. Not only does the food itself look more appetizing when it’s skilfully arranged, but it shows your mates that you’re making an effort for them, as well as telling them that you can be master of a kitchen (remember when all chefs were men?).

And if you’re going to present something like food and drink, rather than just handing it out, nothing looks greater than an entire party presented as a whole – and yes, that means doing a bit of decorating. It’s perfectly possible for a party to have a motif, replete with recurring colours and visual themes, and still feel manly and comfortable. Deck your living room out like your grandad’s study, stick a fake moose head on the wall and serve a good, single malt whiskey in small tumblers. Offer up some hearty fare like lamb kofta or even a spicy pumpkin soup, and you’ve got yourself a ‘hunters night in’ – all the components of design and thematic elements that women are so good at using, but geared for you and your mates to have a great ‘blokes night in’.

When you get comfortable with this idea the possibilities are endless – drag some old chairs and a sofa onto the lawn, drink beer out of old – preferably clean – jars and snack on smoked salmon and dill for a fishing trip without the boring bits (fishing). The next time you have a poker night with the boys, invest in a proper card table, a cocktail shaker and some good quality spirits – then tell your friends it’s black tie only and enjoy a night of re-living those James Bond fantasies while sipping vodka martinis.

Even desserts – so often tarred with the ‘that’s for girls’ brush – can easily find themselves at home in any man’s man gatherings (I don’t know a single bloke who doesn’t have a bit of a sweet tooth). Small, rich chocolates served with a plunger of freshly brewed coffee or tastefully decorated cakes or tarts – all the more impressive if you’ve made them yourself – will find many welcoming hands at any modern man’s party.

The point is all those things that made the girls parties seem like so much fun – the décor, the themes, and the little sweet treats – need not be exclusively feminine. Like anything, they can be geared to varying occasions, seasons, venues, and tastes. It doesn’t need to be bombastic – you aren’t designing a Las Vegas wedding – but with an interesting motif and some attention to detail, it’s easy to throw a party that is visually dynamic, intimate, exciting, and above all, manly.

The colour emerald conjures up images of a cool, vibrant tone with a touch of decadence and harmony.  It also happens to be the Pantone 2013 Colour of the Year and the inspiration for the photo shoot by Style My Celebration.

The vision was to create a truly glamorous dinner party atmosphere while keeping it young and fresh. This was achieved by pairing the emerald with some silver sparkle and adding in striking chevron stripes, along with just the right amount of ‘bling’.

A party isn’t complete without champagne and dessert so a ‘Bubbly & Sweets’ table dedicated to those two elements was styled.  The hero of the table had to be the sequin table cloth which shimmered in the light. The table also boasted a beautiful floral display set in a large apothecary style vase and a simple white photo frame with silver sequin ribbon to offset the sign.

The two-tier birthday cake was covered in white fondant and featured a chevron stripe. More stripes appeared on the cupcakes while speckled, silver cake pops were presented on white platters and candy jars were filled with silver chocolate sixlets. A bottle of pink, French champagne completed the stunning combination.

Behind the table floated giant, silver and emerald balloons festooned with delicate hand-cut tissue garlands and ribbon.  The three panels of the backdrop stand were covered in an emerald green satin and can be customised to suit any event theme.

The dinner party table was covered to the floor with a silver L’amour satin cloth and surrounded by crystal Tiffany chairs. The long floral arrangement on the table showcased a beautiful combination of seasonal flowers in shades of white, ivory and blush and some cleverly painted in silver. The attention given to all these details brought out the best in this elegant emerald theme.

Nothing beats getting together with your closest friends for a fabulous ladies luncheon.  The elegant soirée styled by Ashdown & Bee and held in the garden of a private residence was no exception.

The inspiration for the theme was based on a love of spring, flamingos and the striking combination of pink with emerald green.

Guests were greeted with a hand-drawn chalkboard sign, welcoming and directing them to the garden where the party was held. Pennant style name tags were hung from classic wooden bentwood chairs with gorgeous white typography – hand detailed for each guest. Prep-style emerald green paper placemats were created to ground the place settings and to enhance the vivid colour scheme. The wooden cutlery neatly placed on the mats was custom-created with thick white stripes.

Ombre style roses in clear, glass jars adorned the table and were arranged beautifully from white to hot pink with little plastic flamingos sitting on top as props. The tablescape included white linen napkins with white crockery and handwritten menus, while table drinks were served in crystal wine glasses and topped with pretty, edible flowers.

The beverage table boasted two drink dispensers filled with colour themed garnishes in dynamic, enticing colours. Guests could choose from water infused with mint and cucumber or pink lemonade and lychee martini.  The drinks were served from jam jars with retro striped straws for pre or post lunch drinks.

After lunch, the ladies sat down for dessert on the upholstered loveseats which were arranged charmingly in the garden.  The dessert table showcased inviting sweets including a hot pink and white striped cake with a sugar peony; gold glittered cake pops and flower cookies; and flavoured meringues and marshmallows.  The chalkboard backdrop gave a fun and quirky vibe for the afternoon soirée.

I love baking and making sweets, and I am pretty good at it (I feel I have to boast here as my cooking skills are shocking so have to proud of something I can do in the kitchen), but every now and then I bite off more than I can chew. That day came when I thought I would put on a grand High Tea for Mothers Day. I had organised to make cookies, cheesecakes, little gourmet sandwiches and pretty marbled chocolates like the ones I had seen beautifully displayed on Nectar & Stone’s Instagram page.

So I set about getting my mould and some yummy chocolate, but I needed oil based food colouring to colour the chocolate. Sadly my local store didn’t have them so I thought I would make a tiny ganache type chocolate in the colours I actually wanted – surely that would work?

After the colours were made I poured them in to my mould ever so carefully and waited. And waited. And waited. They never set, they never had that lovely shiny finish to them. They never made it to the High Tea party. (They did however make it to my mouth, despite how they looked they were yummy!).

Oh how did it go so wrong?? I could bake great cookies, I could nail the creative cake – so why, oh why could I not nail these chocolates? Pretty sure the other’s were thinking the exact same thing…
