A ladies luncheon, an afternoon filled with long chats and many laughs. This event was held in the beautiful Currumbin on the Gold Coast in an industrial warehouse.

This particular ladies’ luncheon was themed ‘Industrial Luxe’. The venue was chosen to provide an ambient industrial vibe. After many concepts had been discussed it was decided that ‘Industrial Luxe” best described the theme we wished to create for the luncheon. After all, it felt very appropriate as the event was taking place in a venue that truly encapsulated the industrial vibe.

Our client wished to have rustic and upcycled materials incorporated to encompass the overall theme and align this with the venue allowing for a cohesive feeling. Furnishings that were upcycled included the table top that was created with recycled timber. We also upcycled some reinforced mesh. Reinforced mesh is most commonly used by concreters to reinforce the footing beneath concrete. We used this upcycled mesh to create a photo backdrop. The mesh was painted gold to tie in with both the colour scheme as well as the luxe element of the theme. This mesh was then transformed into a balloon photo wall, where guests could capture the afternoon with a selfie (because it is all about that Instagram life)!

Luxe elements were bought in through careful selections when it came to styling and decorating. Gold table wear contributed heavily to the luxurious feeling of the event. We used a combination of gold candelabras and candle lanterns to add to the luxe vibe as well as creating ambience.

The table also had a lovely pink, white and nude floral table arrangement created by the lovely Sage Flower Crowns placed in the centre of the recycled timber table. These beautiful blooms added pretty hues the tablescape creating a more inviting space for the ladies attending the luncheon. I mean, who doesn’t love a table filled with fresh spring florals.

How could we forget sweet treats? We had some gorgeous custom cookies created for the event. These cookies were created by the very talented Rachelle from Two Little Cupcakes. Overall the event from concept to creation truly provided our client and the lovely ladies who attended the event an enjoyable afternoon. They were made feel welcome, invited and had a wonderful time enjoying the finer details provided for them. It is our goal to create unique spaces that completely bring our client’s visions to life, so that their time can be spent creating long-lasting memories in style.

However, by the 90’s when I got to the age of 16, I don’t remember going to any 16th’s for friends or family. It’s almost like we just didn’t care enough. It seems to me that we have we spent many years ignoring turning 16. I mean, it is a time when you become a young adult – you can work, get your licence and your parents expect you to talk back as you have some severe anger issues and mood swings!

But the good news is that Sweet Sixteenths are back and looking a lot classier than I remember. Let’s take a look at the reinvention of the Sweet Sixteen, Instagram style!

We wanted our wedding to be a casual celebration, filled with all our favourite things; good food, good drinks, good company, fairy lights and lots of flowers!

And we were very lucky to be able to do just that.

The location

We found a house in Yarra Junction, Victoria,  with picturesque views of the mountainside and we knew it was perfect for us. We love a good view, and the house could sleep 12 people, allowed dogs and had a commercial kitchen.– Perfect for our idea of holding an intimate family cook-up.

As I was working part-time in the styling industry, I was super excited about being able to style our own special day. The vibe I wanted to achieve was minimal and casual, with a colour palette of black, greenery and a touch of pink. Working with my florist (and old friend) Cassie from Edward and I was so much fun – she did an incredible job and went above and beyond. In the days leading up, Cassie was spray painting foliage black to create my dream look. The black added some dramatic depth, which was then mixed with a touch of softness with pampas grass and pink florals.

A handcrafted occasion

I love to bring handmade elements into my events when I can (cue my “crafternoons”). In this case, I spent a bunch of time making a few different elements. Being such a simple setting and casual day, I didn’t want to go over the top, so I stuck to a few key pieces:

Invitations As part of my engagement surprise, James had drawn a picture of us, and drawn some stencil art which represents us (he’s the lion, I’m the giraffe!) so I couldn’t wait to use these on our wedding invitations!

Food was all made from scratch, and we all pitched in on the day to help make our idea of a big family cook-up come true.

My sister made beautiful cupcakes (in my colour theme of course) which we decorated with roses. James’ sister made us a lion and giraffe cake, absolutely gorgeous!

We finished the weekend up with a few friends over on the Sunday, which really topped it off. They were all so excited and happy for us. We even made an appearance for them in our suit and dress!

Personalised details

I’m also really glad that I got James’ friends involved for him. In the build-up to our wedding, my sister organised a ‘hens’ celebration for me. I felt so special on this day, with all of my favourite girlfriends in one room. I wanted James to feel as special as I had! Since we weren’t having friends there on our actual wedding day, I thought it was even more important to involve them for him. So, I asked a bunch of his pals to each put together a letter to James. What they came up with was awesome – drawings of the two of us, stories of him growing up, stories of how he deserves the best, and one of his friends put together a full book! He had a good laugh and felt the love, which is all I wanted. His friends said to me it was nice that they could be involved somehow, too. I put these in a box for him, which was titled “A little bit of man love on your wedding day”.

The Dress

I love my dress! My good friend Kristen, from Dressmaking and Such, made my dress, a cape, a surprise bridal robe for me, and James’ pocket square out of my dress fabric. My dress was super simple, a tiny train and pockets (yes!). The cape was beautiful and floaty, I felt so special. I absolutely love everything Kristen made for us – the fabrics, gahhhh. There’s no rule against wearing a wedding dress to work right?
