Die-cut party stationery

Die-cutting is nothing new, however, it is one of the most expensive processes to gain accessibility recently. It has not yet enjoyed the same level of success as other processes such as foiling and letterpress, but  2019 definitely is the time for die-cut invitations, elements and embellishments to have their time in the sun!

Coral, salmon and apricot

Living Coral is Pantone’s colour of the year and is full of life-affirming connotations such as ‘vibrant’, ‘spirited’ and ‘nourishment’. It creates stunning looks when matched with black, or pair it with citrus brights for a livelier look. We’re pretty sure it will be the colour du jour for 2019, along with similarly beautiful apricot and salmon.

Enormous installations

Enormous and breathtaking tassels such as those seen by Bangin’ Hangin’s and The Color Condition will continue to excite, with stylists and other creatives pushing into new directions via different materials, 3D effects and sky high limits. The best example of this can be seen by a US-based artist called Corrie in Color, who uses paper to create amazing 3D effects and super tall installations.

Sheet cakes

Sheet cakes are seeing a huge resurgence. Whether they are decorated in a retro ironic way with loads of white creamy swirls or modernised with edible paper, meringue kisses and drips, we expect to see more of them in 2019.

Magic and mystical

Cinema will set the scene for the magical themes dominating parties this year, with fantasy releases such as Mary Poppins, How to Train your Dragon, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, and Game of Thrones. With all this magic in the air, we can expect to see some very grown-up fantasy themes like mystical fortune teller, astrology, and a fantastical, grown-up take on the moon, celestial themes and even constellations.

 There’s nothing quite as enchanting as a magical Unicorn Party!

As the children arrived, they were greeted with the spectacular sight of the set-up. The tent with the golden unicorn head emerged from the natural wildness of the bush in our backyard. The Frame photography led the children in a fanciful direction, guiding them through the adventure, capturing their reactions along the way.

‘This is what dreams are made of’, said the parents as the children rushed forward to meet our star of the show, Cherry. She is a unicorn from the Sunshine Coast’s premier horse modelling agency, Your Mane Event. She emerges elegantly crowned and adorned in fresh cut flowers specially made for her that morning by Rambling Rose Cooroy. Cherry looks nothing short of a magical delight, and she was an instant hit with both the children and parents alike. They all rushed forward to give her a cuddle and a pat. So cute, and made my heart melt!

The party was styled to create a glamorous exploratory playground for the children to enjoy. It was furnished with luxury details that are made for a celebration to remember! The Glamacamp style has an adventurous spirit, layered with textures and fabrics in soft colours for a magical experience. Peachy pinks and cotton candy with detailed highlights in brass and gold feature.

The picnic table was set up on a gorgeous vintage aqua Turkish rug. The solid wooden French country style table with large marshmallow cushions as seats. Vintage English fine bone china laid on an antique French country kitchen table cloth. The napkins held childhood memories for me, wrapped with the edible necklaces I can remember enjoying as a kid. There were also personalised name tags for each place setting. These were designed together with invitations, thank you, food tags and signage as part of a signature stationary set.

Delicious sweet treats were everywhere for all the children to enjoy! Unicorn biscuits, unicorn donuts and that magical unicorn party cake sat front and centre in the middle of the table. All of the desserts were created the fabulous SweetP Cakes and Cookies. A true visionary delight –almost too good to eat!

For the main food, I asked Journey Street food to create a presentation delight as adventurous as our own setups. An exotic, fresh and healthy 3 tier tower of creative yumminess to be shared all. Fruit skewers, cheeses, crackers, dips, rice paper rolls with decorative edible flowers, bliss balls, with a few extra little treats.

50’s Grease-themed party details

The key colour palette was red, black and white with hints of aqua to reflect the iconic Grease logo, with soft pink introduced throughout Frenchy’s Beauty Salon and the chill-out area to represent the Pink Ladies.

There was also a mock diner and an ice cream soda bar!

To finish it all off, there was also a decadent dessert station featuring a balloon arch.

The Grease fest even included a surprise appearance by two party hosts who performed a scene out of Grease and hosted a dance workshop with the party guests.

Mum Maria tells us “Grease is a timeless theme, and Sylvana was immediately drawn to it. The theme provided ample opportunity to create interactive areas in which Sylvana’s guests could enjoy throughout the event. Creating the dedicated areas such as the diner and Frenchy’s Beauty Salon were important in setting the scene and filling the large space so that it looked fun and lively”.

Typical 1950’s diner food including cheeseburgers, fries and Dagwood dogs, was served. The dessert station featured donuts, toffee apples, Grease cookies, cupcakes and a range of mini desserts.

A fully themed ice cream soda bar was manned by T-Birds, AKA Sylvana’s father and brother.

Why a podcast?

Podcasts are fast becoming a popular form of content due to the wide variety of topics available, and the fact that they are easily consumable (hello multi-taskers!). Whilst there was no data for Australia, one of our sources suggest that up to 25% of the US population is listening to podcasts. At around an average of 10 minutes, you should add it to your playlist right now!

But, a party and event industry podcast?

We get it, the visual experience is extremely important to parties. But there is so much more.

Confetti Fair Meets the Maker podcast series explores the talent behind the party industry – what inspires, challenges and motivates the maker.

We’ll be hearing their stories, listening out for some insights, learning about their creative journeys and of course picking their brains for tips and tricks!

Whether you’re a DIY party lover or party professional, you can get inspired by listening to our series (just pop on your headphones and you’ll be good to go!

A safari birthday party

Natalie from Party Perfection put together this Jungle-Safari affair at Jungle Gym in Willetton, Perth, proving that play centre parties can be beautifully styled and themed too! At this party, the colours were black, green, natural and orange. Scroll down for all the cute details!

The party featured a dessert table with animal-shaped dessert walls, a selfie booth, a craft corner, face painting, party games and a custom colour-in tabletop! We used a mixture of DIY, hired and dollar store elements to style the party. We kept the dessert table theming tight by ensuring that we stuck to a few design elements which were achieved with edible printouts. How did Petite Events Hire come about?

We have three kids and this means lots of parties. It was quite a spontaneous idea to hire out our spare party décor after accumulating a bit of a collection, so I started a Facebook page and it just exploded from there. Two years later here we are!

When I first started, I actually thought it was a unique business and slowly started to realise there was a whole industry of amazing hiring businesses which was quite encouraging and also allowed me to make some great contacts.

You have some amazing items for hire, what are your favourites?

I can’t say I have one favourite but I do love to see our hire items used in kids parties. Seeing happy little faces when they play in our tee pees or pick a donut from our donut wall makes me very happy.

How do you source all your products? What do you look for when selecting items for hire?

Sometimes I ask my kids what they they think of an item when I have a new idea. I figure customer research should start by questioning the target audience.

I also look at what’s on trend and try to source products with hot themes.  Often customers ask for items, that we then make by demand. But in general I like to play with colours or styles I haven’t seen before, so I try and get ideas from areas other than the party industry.

Important factors are most definitely weight and materials. Hire items go through many hands, so they need to be easy to transport and put together, light and long lasting.

From the items you’re hiring at the moment, what are the most popular and what trends can you see?

It’s summer so our picnic tables are very popular. I have also  recently introduced a donut wall range,  as customers always enquire about these and so far have been hired out every weekend since they were introduced.

As for the current trend, pastels seem to be the dominating colour.

Not only do you hire out some amazing items but you also create magic with your grazing tables. How did that come about?

It’s been a growing trend for a while. I had been featuring some amazing businesses on my pages for a while, when I was approached by a client who asked if in addition to a dessert table, I could create a savoury platter. I agreed and from there it just expanded very quickly

I have been lucky that customers have taken very positively to my style and we were booked out for 2017 with grazing tables.

What do you think is the secret to a successful grazing table? And what are the must haves?

I think every caterer has his or her own style. I see so many grazing tables, all styled differently, but all amazing. Sometimes I am asked to create a long even platter while other clients like different heights. And of course the food needs to match the theme and colour scheme of the event. Also everything needs to be fresh and prepared under highest hygiene standards. Must haves are definitely cheese, ain’t no decent platter without it!

If you had to choose any theme to style for an event, what would it be?

Having two boys and a tomboy girl that loves red, I don’t have the opportunity to do much styling with pink. Naturally I adore the pretty girly themes like ballerina, kitty cat or shiny diamonds.

My other favourite is the good old tropical party. Even after being in Australia for 18 years now, looking at a palm tree and pineapples still puts me in a happy mood.
