For Aiden’s 5th Birthday Party we wanted to create a relaxed garden party for family and friends where
watercolour hedgehogs and hedgehog foil balloons were hidden amidst the undergrowth and trees.
The dessert table was set up to resemble a farmer’s market stall, spruiking a variety of berries and cream inspired desserts for guests to choose from.
Aiden’s favourite desserts of pannacotta, jellies and macarons were all featured. A savoury grazing table was also set up with cheeses, meats, salads and loaves of bread to continue the idea of the hedgerow setting where the farm meets woodland. Strawberries, blackberries, blueberries and raspberries were interspersed through the decorations and across the different dessert offerings.
For games, we played a strawberry pass the parcel and a “hedgehog race” where the kids had to scuttle across the grass and collect fruit tokens.
The theme started with a cake request from my son to make a strawberry and cream cake for his birthday. During the early planning stages, Aiden was then keen to
have a hedgehog themed party.
As blackberries are a common sight amongst the hedgerow and woodland habitat of the hedgehog
we decided to combine the ideas together and make berries and cream party filled with little hedgehogs.
