Anna from Print & Party in Brisbane wanted to combine her son Ben’s 5th birthday and daughter Charlotte’s 3rd birthday as they are only 6 weeks apart. A combined birthday would be extra special as all of their friends and family from interstate would be there to celebrate together! Finally, they decided on ‘mermaids versus sharks party’.
Anna used a beautiful colour combination of gold, purple, blue and teal to create a perfect invitation featuring watercolour shells and sea animals, a gold foil shark and mermaid, coral patterns and beautiful fonts.
This set the whole colour style for the party as well as matching stationary which included a printed backdrop, chocolate bar favours, drink labels, party bag stickers, buffet labels, favour tags and various signs.
The dessert table was the focal point of the party, framed by a beautiful balloon garland in all the party colours. The table featured a teal sequinned fabric table cover and gold stands to display the cake and desserts.
The kids loved the clamshell ‘shelfie-booth’, handmade jellyfish hung from the ceiling, giant confetti-filled balloons with tassels and bubble balloon garlands filled the hall and created a whimsical and fun under the sea atmosphere.
Clever mum Anna prepared most of the themed party food herself. The sweets included white chocolate seashells, pearl-of-the-sea macarons, shark-infested jelly cups, magic mermaid cheesecake cups and dinglehopper cake pops. Vanilla starfish cookies by Liz’s Cookie Jar and personalised chocolate bars by Print & Party were the perfect take-home treats.
The savoury foods included starwiches, crabby croissants, mini quiche abalone, octopus frankfurts, a sushi tray, coral reef twisties, sea salted popcorn, driftwood pretzels and prawn crackers.
The highlight of the dessert table was the incredible two-tiered chocolate mud cake made by Sugarbug Cakes & Sweets.
A variety of activities and games were all set out that the kids could easily busy themselves during the party.
The “Shellfie Station” Clam Shell Photo Booth with a variety of ocean-themed props including gorgeous handmade shark and mermaid tails from The Wacky Wardrobe and sequined crowns from Schooza Handmade.
The kids also enjoyed a make your own Mermaid/Shark Necklace station with beads from Bubblegum Beads Australia, bean bag toss and ring toss lawn games from Lovely Occasions and a giant ocean colouring poster from Kmart. There was also a big playground at the hall which was the clear favourite with all the kids!
Guests took home a party bag containing a bubble wand, chocolate bar, treat tube, and a few other ocean themed sweets and toys.
Charlotte and mum Anna wore matching Mummy-Daughter mermaid skirts which was lots of fun! Benjamin had an excellent time chasing his friends around in his Shark dress-up costume. Dad Chris looked great dressed up as a lifeguard.
Anna says: “I loved every minute of planning this party! It’s such a fun and easy theme to work with. All the party guests enjoyed their time at our Ocean inspired event! Benjamin and Charlotte had the best day ever and are already asking what their next party will be!”
Looks like it was a fantastic day!
