To feel both beautiful and comfortable on your big day, do some in-store bra fittings after buying your dress to emphasise the specific silhouette you’re aiming for. This ensures you can enjoy yourself without worrying about bra slip ups, showing straps or honeymoon back pains.

Similarly to the dresses, you can discover modern takes on these looks with bolder patterns and playful accessories such as an antique watch or a giant cigar.

To dive into the glamorous and decadent vibes of the 1920’s, the aesthetic elements and music need to fit the bill. 1920s art deco will almost steal the spotlight as statement pieces to bring together your venue. This will be most appropriate at an outdoor venue, as you can hang framed posters and art from, or drawing inspiration from the 1920s. However, if you opt for an outdoor venue, there are other ways to reflect a 1920s vibe. 

For example, music is a good way to display a theme. Hiring a jazz band that can do 1920s music is a great way to do this. This also means you can do 1920s inspired first dances to integrate the theme.  

Color Palettes for Your Gatsby Dream

Exploring colour combinations that were popular in the 1920s is another way to fit the theme. This can be integrated into different parts of the wedding, such as accessories, ornaments, light fittings, jewellery, cutlery and more. Some popular colour combinations include black and gold, blush and ivory and emerald and pearl. A black and gold colour theme may be difficult to achieve for dresses, as you will typically wear a white dress. However, the contrast of the black will make your dress stand out even more, creating a showstopping look!

Some bolder options for colour palettes are jewel tones, metallics and vibrant pops of colour. Themes with bright colours can be difficult to implement, as it can be difficult to coordinate a complicated theme with bright colours, especially with outfits. You may choose to keep the setting a classic white and add a pop of colour to the outfits. Or, you may even keep classically subtle coloured outfits with one or two bright colours in the setting for contrast.

Ultimately, colour choice is up to personal preference. Make sure to choose a palette that you believe looks good and also reflects you and your partners’ personal styles, and fits the venue.

Accessories and accents are the vital finishing touches that will make or break your chosen theme. Accessories can take a wedding from having a beach venue to a tropical hawaiian summer style wedding. For outfit accessories, headbands, feathers, pearls and gloves will make perfect outfit accessories to add to the dress code. For the couple getting married, vintage jewellery, pocket squares and boutonnieres will make a unique outfit.

Candles, curtain tassels and feathers make for the perfect add ons to your wedding to add some 1920s flare. If you decide on a black and gold theme, gold candle holders, curtain tassels and cutlery will be the perfect way to express this theme though smaller details. Of course, no 1920s themed wedding is complete without way too many giant feathers in your hair and in the decorations, so don’t shy away from a beautiful feathered table centrepiece!

Megan is a fully qualified and professional face painter who launched in 2019. In that short time, she has already achieved multiple awards and recognition for her talents.

What is Face Bling?

Bling is an additional piece to add dimension to face painting or can be used on their own. Similar to face jewels, the concept is a series of gems placed together to create a single item. This has always been a popular addition, but I have always liked being different. So I discovered bling artistry which is popular amongst facepainters overseas, but not very well known here in Australia. Bling is also a great upsell for children’s facepaint parties and markets. 

What makes Magical Megs bling so unique? 

I go beyond the face jewels and create by hand a variety of bling. My most popular is the 3D unicorn horns which I create using silk clay. Once dried, they are added together with other gems and items using tulip fabric paint. It is best to use plastic sleeves or wax baking paper as when they dry, the bling peels off easily meaning that you can reuse the sleeve or paper. 

I also aim to be gender neutral and inclusive of all ages. 

What events and themes are popular for Face Bling?

Bling can be used at festivals such as Mardi Gras as well. 

In terms of themes, I have created superhero splats, monster and dragon horns, princess crowns and themes such as Frozen, mermaid tails, fairy wings, butterfly gems, etc. the list goes on as I look at being more creative.

Do you have any interesting facts about your Face Bling? 

Once dried, the bling is placed on medical grade double sided tape which is safe for the skin. You can also use a skin adhesive such as prosaid or eyelash glue.

Bling can reused this way or can be turned into something else such as a keyring, bookmark, anything creative.

Bling can be made with a variety of materials, not just plastic gems. For example, my fairy wings are organza material, the cachabons are glass, mermaid tails are resin. Last year, I was part of a group at Halloween which had a project to create bling out of household items. I discovered that buttons were a great use.

We love club sandwiches here at Confetti HQ. In fact, we love them so much, we make a habit of booking 1 or 2 staycations throughout the year just so we can go to a hotel and have club sandwiches! Even my husband and I often forgo fine dining for a staycation and club sandwich.

So when we decided to style a Beverley Hills Hotel themed pamper party for Valentine’s (or Galentine’s) Day, we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to create this delicious little morsels.

The idea behind these club sandwiches is that they are small, easy to make and of course, super delicious! Here is the recipe we used.

Cute Heart Shaped Club Sandwiches for Valentine’s Day

Classic Club Sandwich Recipe

Ingredients:

• 3 slices of thick toast bread
• 2 slices of cooked turkey breast
• 2 slices of cooked bacon
• 2 slices of ripe tomato
• 1 lettuce leaf
• Mayonnaise
• Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

1. Toast the slices of bread until they are golden brown.
2. Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise on one side of each slice of toast.
3. Place a lettuce leaf on one slice of toast, then add a slice of tomato and season with salt and pepper.
4. Add a slice of turkey breast on top of the tomato, followed by two slices of bacon.
5. Place another slice of toast on top of the bacon, spread with mayonnaise, then add a lettuce leaf and a slice of tomato.
6. Repeat the layering with another slice of toast, turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise.
7. Top with the final slice of toast, and cut the sandwich into halves or quarters.

Serve with potato chips or fries, and enjoy your classic club sandwich!

• Depending on party size and type, you may want to consider a thank you gift such as a robe or fluffy slides. If it is a shower or a hen’s party, consider offering these as game prizes, especially as they are on the dearer side!
• Eye masks are a great idea. If you have a Cricut machine or similar, you could even customise them!
• For something more in budget, consider a mix of green or pink hard striped candy in a jar with matching tag!
• Serve signature cocktails like the “Beverly Hills Hotel Martini” or “Pink Palace Punch” to add to the ambiance.

Stationery

• Menus are a must have for your table set up
• Try creating a green sign emulating the hotel’s famous sign

So you’ve chosen a theme for your next party, now you’re ready to order your cake. Every project, whether it’s for work, or home, needs clarity to ensure positive outcomes and a cake is no different. Amber of Cake With Amber gives us a list of essential questions to ask your cake decorator to help avoid disappointment and ensure your cake design is a success!

Here are the 8 questions you should ask your cake decorator!

QUESTION: ARE YOU LICENSED?
It is important to ask if your cake decorator is licensed and registered with the local council. What this means is that your cake decorator is then legally allowed to make and sell cakes from their premises as per food safety regulations.

QUESTION: HOW DO YOU PRICE YOUR CAKES?
There are many different variables that come into pricing cakes, but it mainly comes down to two different components. First is the number of guests that will be attending the event, because that determines how many slices you’ll need. Secondly, the complexity of your design and your request. And naturally that comes with a lot of different variables depending what you want. So from there, they’ll be able to determine a price for you.

QUESTION: WHAT SIZE AND SHAPE DO YOU RECOMMEND?
Once the cake decorator determines how many people, what the event is for and the design that you need, they’ll be able to come up with a few different options for you. It’s important to bring up your vision. A cake decorator can offer options based on the shape and the size tiers that you would like for your event. For example, if you want three tiers but don’t have enough guests, a fake display can be used instead of real cake, so you’re not actually left with all the leftovers.

QUESTION: DO YOU SPECIALISE IN A PARTICULAR STYLE OF CAKE?
Decorators can specialise in so many different type of cakes, including buttercream, fondant, wedding or children’s cakes. It’s important to clarify what type of cake your cake decorator specialises in, so that you know if they can create the cake you want. You don’t want to accidentally ask a person who specialises in children’s cakes to create your wedding cake, because the details and the finishes won’t be the same as those for wedding cakes.

QUESTION: WHAT FLAVOURS DO YOU OFFER?
Each decorator should have their own specialised list of cake flavors and fillings However, if you have your heart set on a specific flavor, make it known so you can determine if they’ll be able to do this for you. It’s also really important to note that if your guests have any dietary requirements, like intolerances or allergies, to make note of that with the cake decorator and see if there’s actually something that they can accommodate as well.

QUESTION: WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?
This is such an important question to ask more than ever, especially with Covid when events can be cancelled unexpectedly at the last minute. You need to know if you still need to fork out the full payment for your cake, or if it can be rescheduled for another time, or if you’ll just lose the deposit. It’s important to get this in writing and maybe even sign a contract as well. That might seem excessive, but it’s better to be covered, just in case.

QUESTION: CAN YOU RECREATE A CAKE I FOUND ONLINE?
People don’t realise this is a loaded question because many cake decorators will not replicate someone else’s cake design. That comes down to two factors. The first is design ownership. It really is frowned upon to steal someone else’s idea. There is some gray area that comes with this, for instance, cake trends. The second issue is copyright. This mainly pertains to children’s cakes where Marvel superheroes or Disney themes are popular. But those are actually copyright and if a decorator is caught using this type of imagery, they can be sued. Either way, don’t fret because your cake decorator will still be able to create an amazing cake for you based on the inspiration and theme of your event.

QUESTION: CAN YOU HELP OFFER ME SOME DESIGN INSPO?
This was my favourite question to get as a decorator because that meant I could put my creative cap on and really work with the client in producing an original design for their event! It was actually an honor to be asked these questions. So, don’t hesitate to say, here’s my budget, please give me some options. Just be prepared to maybe share a Pinterest board and maybe have more of an in-depth chat.

One can never get enough of a Barbie party! So when CottonOn released their Barbie EXTRA clothes range around about the time of the 2021 lockdown, we knew we definitely had to grab our girl gang and get shooting.

After having to postpone twice due to spicy flu (thanks but no thanks COVID), we were ready to rock! Rather than the traditional pink, we wanted to pay homage to the fun, colour and message that Barbie conveys. Including some retro elements was also a must, because Barbie just has that nostalgic effect on all of us! Lots of bright colours, a life-size boom box and a Barbie box lay the foundation for our backdrop.

Now no outfit, especially when it is EXTRA is complete without coloured hair and braids, thank you to Sydney’s queen of braids The Braid Boss! With each little one dressed in their outift and hair done, it was time to sit down to a table of desserts!

Top Tips for Creating the Perfect Party Cake

It’s an exciting rush diving into party planning for your own celebration! However taking that extra leap to create your own cake – whether that be for a birthday or even an engagement – can be a little overwhelming

Let me help you feel more confident in the kitchen. Here are some big cake do’s and don’ts to ensure your celebration cake is a big success!

DON’T: Leave your baking to the last minute – you’ll be in a rush, cut corners and you ultimately won’t be happy with the finished product.

DO: Make your cake and icings in advance to save on time leading up to the party. Simply pop it in the freezer and defrost the day before. So many cake decorators freeze their cakes and icings, so ignore those freezer-naysayers! Would you believe me if I told you it actually makes the cake more moist?

DON’T: Bake from scratch if you aren’t confident with baking. It’s stressful!

DO: Take advantage of packet mixes or pre-made cakes – this saves you time and the headache of trying to bake that perfect cake. I promise that your guests won’t think any less of you!

DON’T: Decorate with warm or room temperature cake, as it’s very fragile. The cake will be very soft, which means it’s tricky to handle and prone to cake breakage. Additionally, placing icing on a warm cake is a recipe for disaster!

DO: Decorate with chilled cakes for stability and less crumbs in your icing. For chilled cake layers, pop your cakes in the fridge for at least 2 hours before decorating.

DON’T: Stack domed cake layers on top of each other – the cake will be uneven, unstable and inevitably start to lean.

DO: Trim your cake layers flat before stacking and icing your cake.

DON’T: Place your cake in direct sunlight or in a hot space – we don’t want all of your hard work melting away and falling apart!

DO: Keep your cake in a cool (and in some cases, dry) climate. If the party is outdoors, place the cake outside just before guests arrive. If it’s sunny outside, make sure you keep your cake in a shaded area.

1. Make personalised bonbons with these popular blank bon bons. Customise using a Cricut or other cutting machine, or grab some letter stickers from Officeworks.

2. Design a cake topper using icons and fonts from Canva or similar. You can print it out at Officeworks on a thick cardstock. Cut around it and stick it to a skewer. Voila!

3. Create simple yet effective door decor by creating adding a sign with the year, a wreath, some greenery and done!

Get the Craft Materials Out

5. Create your own wrapping paper with Kraft paper roll, washi tape, paint and markers

6. Cut out stars and bauble shapes out of felt to create your own themed decorations!

7. Print out a 2D fireplace to create a faux Christmas mantle scene, like we did here! You can then print it out at Officeworks. If you order it on thinner paper, it costs less than $20 to get one printed at A0 size, which is pretty huge!

KEEP IT TRADITIONAL

There is nothing easier than a ready-made garland to quickly add decoration to your Christmas table. Of course, if you are feeling adventurous, you can start with a plain garland and add your own decorations. Here I have used a traditional ready decorated green garland with gold decorations and simply added some clear glass tea light holders with tea lights to add some instant warmth and movement to the table. Don’t forget that when having candles at the dinner table, ensure they are unscented as not to interfere with the scents of the dinner. This quick decorating idea will take you no more than 5 minutes and your friends and family are sure to be impressed.

DOUBLE DUTY DECOR

Beautiful food items work hard and can be used for multiple purposes. Cinnamon is a perfect example. If you want your house to smell like Christmas without the worry of burning scented candles, just add cinnamon sticks to your décor!

CHRISTMAS IS A BALL

Vases aren’t just for flowers! Use small glass vases with Christmas tree decorations (the standard baubles look great) to make a table centrepiece. The use of Christmas decorations on your table is an easy and cost-effective way of carrying your decoration theme from your tree to your table. Use any colour scheme – bright, metallic or pastels. Just remember, whatever you decide to use if you place a white tablecloth or runner underneath it will really make your decorations stand out (and give you instal-worthy snaps). THE PARTY BEBE’S EMILY JABOUR SHOWCASES THESE QUICK TREATS THAT EVEN THE BUSIEST OF PARTY PLANNERS CAN MAKE!

The holiday season is upon us, and whilst I love baking festive treats with my little ones, with back-to-back Christmas parties and events I also need to be able to come up with some super quick party treats. Here are two Christmas party food ideas that will literally take two minutes to make (the kids will love to help make these too, so make sure there are some spare cookies available for them to get creative)! A big thank you to Charlie’s Cookies for providing the delicious cookies for these party treats!

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

SANTA BELT COOKIES

• 1 packet red iced cookies, macarons or melting moments. Charlie’sCookiesRaspberry Melting Moments were used inthis recipe
• Black writing icing or melted dark chocolate
• White icing or melted white chocolate

REINDEER COOKIES

• Writing icing
• Smarties or M&M’s for the nose
• 1 packet gingerbread cookies (these onesareCharlie’s Cookies Gingerbread Bears,(turned upside down and iced onto theback of the cookie) which were perfect.

METHOD

SANTA BELT COOKIES

1. Start by piping or drawing the belt onto the cookie with black writing icing or melted darkchocolate. (I used Queen writing icing).
2. Pipe on the two round buttons above the belt. (I made a royal icing and then piped the buttonson, but you could use melted white chocolate, white writing icing, or even mini marshmallows.)
3. Allow to set and then enjoy!

REINDEER COOKIES

These adorable cookies won’t last long on the dessert table! Rudolf has never looked sweeter!

1. Pipe a mouth, ears, eyes and antlers on to thecookie.
2. Add icing to the back of a Smartie or M&M and place the nose onto the cookie and allow to set.

Remember the stock standard plain red stockings? The deluxe version, if you were lucky, had lovely felt trees and baubles glued on. None of that these days! Now we have super-luxe personalised Santa Sacks in gorgeous metallic lettering. I know which one I prefer!

“Our vision was to create a kids halloween party where pastels are the new orange with a twist of funky. We used  traditional Halloween pieces in our floral vases and created a feast for the kids on our kid’s  luxury tables and chairs. We made the ombre backdrop and set up some of our party rentals including a modern bounce house, candy carts and dressed up my kids and their friends to be the characters of the party. Other vendors in our community came together with balloons and treats for this Monster Mash Bash!”
